camping fridges

  1. We are after a fridge to be used in the camper but also that can be used when camping in the tent, so not a built in machine. Must be a decent unit that does actually keep stuff cold. So not 10/15 below ambient stuff, that's what we have already
We've struggled on with our little leccy coolbox for years but really its crap, and with 2 kids, we now outgrown it.
Was looking at those 3 way ones but they seem to get a lot of negative reviews about the gas being temperamental if its not perfectly level.
2 way ones look good( well the waeco's, but big money) is it feasible to run one of those off a leisure battery? Bearing in mind what I've now learned about leisure batts not actually charging up as you drive !

Any tips, experience, sage like advice to offer forth?

I would have also suggested a Waeco fridge but as you want to have yours reasonably mobile it might be worth looking at the waeco coolbox. One of our friends had one and said they were more effective than ordinary cool boxes.

  6. @Barneyrubble yeah that's the sort I was thinking of, was put off by the annoying gas reviews, you've never had any probs then? Still good in stinking hot south france type heat?

@matty good guide thanks, when you say a 3 way on 12v will last half to one day, you mean to fully drain the battery? What if its plugged in cigar lighter while you drive for 5 hrs for example?

With the engine running it will be fine but the take around 10amps so will need a decent cigar lighter plug and socket

  10. 2011 Volvo, would the cigar lighter in there be what you class as drcent!? Sorry, I really don't know!

that waeco that @pkrboo linked says 0.71 Ah/hour. So (make it easy!) A 70ah batt, would last 10hrs theoretically?

  14. Nope it'd be 100 hours!!! And that is only when the compressor is running. It doesn't cut in all the time.

  16. Another vote here for Waeco generally. They use very little power and so will quite happily run off the leisure battery for long periods. We went on holiday round France and our Waeco Cr-65 was running all day on the battery without any problems, only being plugged into the mains in the evening. We've also been to shows with it and it has been fine all weekend without being plugged into the mains.
