Camper set up - anyone got anything similar

  1. Don't suppose you got any pics of that?
Or remember the position ing etc?
Sounds a good idea, and a lot cheaper than an external tank!

  2. no the underneath one!

At the moment, that large cupboard is given over entirely to gas and water storage so I'd gain it back with underslung tank and sunken gas behind.
No pics but it was just forward of the rear outrigger/jacking point.

Sorry, thought it was mongrakers that had a filler like a chrome T4 engine oil filler behind the passenget seat?

Hmm, there's only 250mm between that and the next top hat and 907 bottle is 200mm dia, but I'm sure it had 2 bottles in it. Maybe one each side of the top hat, or more likely the top hat was chopped out with the gay abandon often evidenced in UK conversions. :)
That happens to be the rustiest part of my floor underneath so would have been handy to just chop it out. The box for the gas canisters was dropped into the floor hole, the top made from angle steel such that it overhung the floor hole, then screwed down.

Feel like doing it right now! Cut straight through floor covering, ply, steel and floor support with the grinder and drop a box in.

The way my cupboards lie with reference to the outrigger, I have 385mm and need 400 to put them side by side.
If I stagger them AutoCAD says I need to increase the depth from 200 to 285mm - just for 15mm!
Cupboard is 280 deep andt part is over inner sill so it's non-starter for me for a twin sunken gas do-dat. Might not be worth it for one as I plan to carry a spare now I'm taking camping more seriously.

  8. That was our thinking - two clear containers under the sink one for fresh water one for waste water. Can see when they need filling / emptying. Easy to remove. Easy to keep clean.

Your pictures make it look otherwise? What's the copper pipe for?

  11. I wouldn't be too precious about cutting holes in the bus where necessary.
For what it will cost and the ease of fitting, I'd definitely install mains hook up....could be in the engine bay, or under the rear bumper....doesn't have to be a hole in the side

hole in the top is for the pump i then sealed the top
the copper was for the pump out and one for the overflow/ vent i have changed the vent overflow to the other side so its not seen but you could use a flexy pipe but copper meant i could get a sharp bend straight out the top of the tank

  13. but if you're going to the hassle of fitting an underslung gas tank (large, heavy) you may as well make the most of the additional, cheaper gas, by running the fridge on it, when parked up...IMO

and if space allows, a gas water heater as well...that's the only reason I didn't install a calorifier in mine....not the space, as you can always find some....the gas it uses

Hot water is bliss in a motorhome....I know you can always boil the kettle, or get it from the campsite, but it'd be a nice addition...

  14. Is it an overflow?

  15. as I spent top dollar on an original, unmolested bus I was kinda hoping to keep it that way, lol. I accept that hook up is no big issue and will just be a single small hole out for cable.

  16. But is running fridge on gas rather than a waeco on 12v any cheaper.
Water heater would be nice but probably ott for maybe 10 weekends a year!

  17. Anyway the kettle is nearly always on and that could be considered a gas water heater!

  18. doesn't have to be...you can install an inlet plug under the rear bumper and run the cable thru the tinware and up into the spare wheel well, or direct thru the tank compartment if fitting the RCBO under the rear seat....

    alternatively, carry one of these

    saves some hassle....safe as milk

  19. Yes your right. thought you meant the tank was there. Seen that to but not sure what conversion that was!. Yes the filler is there and a great hole through the tub which causes issues, Vikings have it too!

  20. from an economics point of view, the cost of an underslung tank plus fittings is prohibitive compared to refilling a small gaz cylinder every now and then, assuming you only use it to boil the kettle, a bit of cooking or running a propex.....

you'd definitely recoup the costs, including cheaper gas, but it would take a while....think of the underslung as solar panels....saves money, but only in the long run, which for a camper, might not actually be that long before you flog it...less hassle once fitted i suppose
