so you have to remove the plug to isolate the appliance so both poles of the supply are broken as the incoming supply may have the poles reversed. presumably meaning like a 2 pin euro style supply that the plug can go any way round
I've got switched sockets...... you can use any socket, household type, white, brushed steel etc mine came from extreme van as a kit with mains sockets and fittings
Of course you can fit any household socket, I realise that but that wasn't the question. Sockets purposely made for motorhomes don't have switches. You do realise this was/is probably a bloke with no more idea that you or I running a small business for pocket money from his garage? Is that something you have reasoned out yourself or is it the law?
Yep, metal Screwfix switched domestic ones for me. As above, it doesn't ensure both poles are disconnected, but hey - let's live dangerously.
If there is good reason I will follow it, I would not like a small child* to stick their fingers in the socket an die or summat if it can be avoided by simply choosing one item in preference to another then that is what I will do. *small children are not actually allowed in my van, but you can't be on your guard all the time.
wickes have for nine pounds , double sockets with switches , and , dont get too excited ,, but they also have two usb ports on the same sockets , . two birds one stone in my mind
Super, but that's just a random sentence about sockets no? The question is, why no switches on purpose made motorehome sockets? Not, where can I buy a socket with switches. I'm 55 years old, I can manage that. Sorry to sound grumpy. Thanks.
i understand zed... couldnt contain my excitement having bought 2 of said sockets today maybee they dont have switches to save on weight , heavy buggers those switches
Lots of paranoia about polarity. I have a socket tester i normally leave in the van to check the mains. Tells you if the connections are there and confirms there's an earth on the supply and the polarity is correct.
nd have they ever not been? I'm not questioning your paranoia, I've seen these on ebay for £6.99 myself, just wondered. If you did find the elec supply on a site all to cock, what would you do (besides unplug).
My mains inlet actually doesnt comply with current regs as it is reversible so i just turn mine around by 180 degrees.
It wouldn't surprise me, I've just stripped out the 240V socket on the furniture I got from someone on here - the cable had been stapled onto the inside through the pvc and live/neutral were swapped.
