Cable issues with a factory fitted sunroof

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by berpit, Jul 2, 2014.

  1. Hello All (& Alex @ VW Heritage) due to some over vigerous winding by the kids the cables on the slider (passenger side) of my 79 US Import sunroof are b8ggered & badly kinked.
Firstly Alex (or anyone else in a position to supply) how much please? (these were only 10 months old & used approx 20x arrgghhhh!!)
Secondly anyone in the Doncaster area fancy the challenge of fitting them? The kn8ckered ones have been removed & the lid put back in place temporarily.
As always any response is usually a good response, so fire away please...

    Thanks,
    Chris

  2. anybody out there know anything about sunroofs?

  3. How-do

VWH did list the cables, but they were around £200 a side if memory serves...

Other option is to order them from the states - west coast metric... or someone of the like :)

I'm a ways from donny, but I do have experience with sunroof vans, but I'm solidly booked for around 4/5 weeks

  4. Make sure all the tubes and plates are In tight when you get new ones. There should be no room to kink. I've got some spare covers winders and other sunroof bits if ur stuck
    Good luck
Btw don't grease runners use a silicone lube. Oils and greases attract dirt and actually increase friction when not clean.
Good luck. It took me ages to get mine right
