Cab door skins???

  1. Does anyone have any experience with replacing cab door skins? The doors on my project 76 have good solid bottoms but the skins are shot, are the skins a good fit and easy enough to fit? Thanks in advance for any info.

  2. Hello mate I got my doors of @Lardy with new skins on I'm not sure where the came from but they are a good fit just be sure to attach the strengthening bars to the skins or you will have a nightmare when sanding etc

  3. They are a good fit, but I'd be very surprised if the door bottom is good if the skin is shot. Are you sure it's not filler? Normally there's no economical point in reskining doors because by time you've bought the skin, repaired the door bottom and frame and welded the skin into position, you could have bought a imported door.

  4. Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah the door bottoms are very good, no filler. It would need a small repair at the very back but only a couple of inch to replace so could easily make this up from sheet steel, the lip the skin welds to would need a small repair too. Would I have to brave the door whilst removing the old skin? I would of thought it would become a little flexy without the skin?

  5. If it's just a small repair to the skin,I'd do that instead of replacing the whole skin, the original skin is better quality than the repro skin, just weld it slowly to minimise distortion. If you decide to replace the whole thing, you don't need to brace it.

  6. I've done quite a few cab door skins now, and there is absolutely no need to brace them :)

  7. Thanks guys, think I'll give it a go. Might aswel for the cost of a skin, import doors seem to be demanding big money from what I've seen.

  8. Think they were from heritage.

  9. Just take your time welding. Allow for the heat to cool to save distortion on the panel.
