I need to replace my cab door seals - in fact all of the door seals on the bus as they are all beyond redemption! So... I have been given two contradicting bits of advice:- 1. Buy the cheapest reproduction cab door seals as I will not be able to shut the door with the OE style ones, but get the OE style ones elsewhere on the bus. 2. ALWAYS buy the most expensive OE style seals I can for every door. Which bit of advice is right? Peoples experience and suppliers info would be much appreciated. Thanks
You want the soft grey door seals, they almost look powdery. The shiny black ones are the hard ones. This Rather than this
That was what I thought but I was told the opposite applies for the cab doors for some reason. Have you swapped yours? Any problems? I am looking at the ones on VW Heritage as they seem reasonable - unless anyone has a better supplier?
I got the complete seal kit from Custom and Commercial. I was pleased with all of it except the price lol
I had VWH with a complete door kit, they were the harder type and were a waste of time. Not sure if they do both types (the harder one is the made in UK one) but C&C definitely do the correct soft seal that means you can actually shut the cab doors.
Sorry matey, that's carp, all the suppliers sell good seals. In fact I found the guy at C&C a bit dopey to deal with, he only sent half the deluxe trim joining bits, I paid for next day and had to wait a week and they were rather expensive. At the time I couldn't find the metal deluxe trim anywhere else, but I haven't shopped there since. I have heard they've given themselves a kick up the arse since, so maybe I'll give them another go.
We do a best quality kit and a repro kit, the Repro complete cab door seal kits are about £84 and the Best Quality are about £119. I would always recommend going for ther better qaulity with the grey style german door seals they are much easier to fit and also are a much better product. Door seals are meant to be tight and you may end up having to slam your cab doors for the first year or two while they bed in (I did with mine anyway) but this is correct if the door closes easily to start by the time the rubber has been squashed a bit and shrank a little over time you'll end up with air whistling in
If the seals are BQ and equivalent to VW (og) then why would you have to slam the doors for a couple of years. Im not aware that this was a requirement when our vehicles were new. If not then whay cant anyone make one that does exactly what the originals did ie fit, shut and seal.
I had to slam/shut the door with a bit of force but six months later I've got lovely closing doors. Get the best you can afford....or save up a bit more and get grey ones I've got grey ones and I'm very happy with them.
Also please dont right off your original seals Ive managed to refurb my original og cab door seals to a very good useuable standard It will take a lot of time but if you like me have time but little money its worth it
Gb camper put up some good quality pics of your seals you have now Ill let you know if i could save them or if you need to buy new Im getting a bit fed up of people just buying new when the old original stuff can be used again with some time and effort
Alex does vwh fancy trialing some of its stuff on a restoration carried out by a bloke that used to be a tornado f3 engineer and is used to building to a concourse standard?
