Cab door card bungs and clips

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by paradox, May 1, 2016.

  1. I need to buy some rubber bungs and clips to fit my cab door cards.
Wheres the best place to buy them from so they actually fit and work as they are supposed to?
I ask as ive heard a few people say they have ordered them and they dont fit well.
One of my doors has holes of a bit over 6mm and the over holes of a bit over 7mm
So i wont be able to drill out the smaller holes to the larger size as they are not spot on 6mm
If i order a pack of 6mm bung and a back of 7mm bungs do they both take the same clips?

  2. Some of the bungs were hard to come by a couple of months ago.. small I think.. but there's some about now.. One of the suppliers when I was looking for options said the bigger clips would be a a bit tight in the smaller bungs and the bigger bungs too tight if you put them in the smaller holes.. if that helps at all. .

  3. So there are different size clips to fit the different size bungs then
So I just need to find someone that's fitted them recently and they fitted and worked fine and buy them from the same supplier.
I'm getting fed up of buying stuff that doesn't fit

  4. I couldn't find the bunfs when I fitted my door cards so I just used the clips on their own, and they work fine. T Whatis the purpose for the bungs?

  5. The bungs stop water tracking through and making your door cards go soggy and pull away from the clips.

Also protect the paint from the edges of the clips.

  9. I bought and used JK door cards (green) plus their clips and bungs. (Two bags of each)
I'm late bay '77 LHD westy the holes in my doors were in good condition.
The only thing I noticed was as I'd replaced my polythene sheet I thought it was a good idea to cover the holes and just pierce a small hole to push the bung into. This was a bad idea! The fit of the clip was pants.
I then made sure the holes were clear and that the bung was "fully" installed (little bit of a thumb pressing whilst jiggling) as some holes were tighter than others.
Then the door card lips fitted perfectly you could actually feel the clip expand as it went through the door skin.
There are pics on here in my "dash speaker reinstate" thread.
    Hope this helps[IMG][IMG]

  11. I forgot mine were the preservation ones, but being a westy they would be
I'd get a 1/4 centre point drill bit (no side cutting flutes) and run it through. The bigger than 7mm will be fine but the 6mm may be a little tight restricting the clips expansion and thus not holding the card tight to the door. I'm really fussy about things like that
If you pm me you're address I'll borrow a bit from work and post it to you.
I've got a few spare clips n bungs I'll dig em out and you can have them too.
Save you buying two bags and only needing a few out of the second.

  12. Right, I best order some. I suppose I need to measure the size of the holes in the doors (I recall I got the doors from later import) and count how many holes are in each door.

  13. For a pair of doors it's just over one sodding bag!

  14. I can believe that, I think I have half a bag of clips somewhere.

  15. That would be great cheers
I'm looking forward to getting the cards fitted it will really improve the cab area
Did you make your own plastic membrane for the doors?

  16. PM me ur address buddy.
Yes I made my own (copied the OG inc flaps through big holes)
I reinstated the air vents too.
I used thick builders polythene. Local Gibbs n Dandy let me cut off a few meters as a "sample"

  17. Do you have a link to pics of the membranes?
Mine never had any fitted when I got the van so I've nothing to take a reference from.
    Pm on its way

  18. A good place to start is trace around a door card for an outline ... ;)
