Bus cover - rubbish

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by jonspadge, Oct 11, 2014.

  1. Took the cover off of the bus today so I could take it out for a spin and was pretty disappointed with the state it had left the bus in. It was totally sopping wet and had done nothing to protect it. I'd suspected for a while it was not as waterproof as it could be but now I believe it could be doing more harm than good (holding moisture on the bus and not allowing it to breathe).

Anyone got any good recommendations. Not a JK one if you know what I mean....

Honestly, the best thing you can do if it's left outdoors is to wax and drive it regularly. Also make sure to wash underside if salt has been laid due to frost or if mud is gathering in the arches.

  3. Yep, this. In my experience, a sodden cover will chafe your paint and hold water against the paintwork. Al fresco for me!

I detest covers. The best advise I can give is sprat WD40 in door shuts and gutters and down the seems if it's not been painted recently.

  5. Ankor Wax.... That is all

  6. Iv a jk one and I get the same problem it's carp

  7. Wouldn't that smell after a while?

  8. I had one for my old bus, used it one year and was very disappointed to find that condensation formed under it (as it does on the bus anyway in cold temperatures) and wasn't able to escape like it does in the open air. As such the rusting process was accelerated that year tremendously. I will not buy another. Best thing I can do as I haven't got a garage is dry it off with a chamois regularly when it is wet, and allow the air to circulate around it as best as possible.

  9. We had this discussion a while ago with jkjoshi when I complained my cover was Marmite. Apparently its not actually an issue for the covers to be guff as jk clearly describe their covers as almost pointless in the description {{ probably>

Only while its being stored outside over winter.

  11. I've said it before and I'll say it again, fill your gutters and seams and anything else you can think of with lashings of vaseline.
It's *****ing filthy, but when you're jet washing it out next spring and nothing is rusty and is just as you remember it from when you were squeezing it in, you'll be thanking me.

  13. I've got a jk one and it's been brilliant the last 2 years. I leave my roof rack on and it seems to help leave a bit of a void and helps the water run of.

  14. Protec are supposed to be the best , I have a Hamilton one which was circa 200 quid and I can't fault it ..I personally wouldn't put wd40 or Vaseline on paint

  15. I have never felt the need to buy one ,I like looking at the T25 everyday to put a cover over it would not make me smile or Grimace...:D

    You people are weird...

I've bought one of those 3 x 6 meter gazebo style garages for the bus and X1/9 for when I move as I'll have no garage until one is built. £150 on ebay. I've played with my toy cars and as long as I get the angle right I should get them both in there with storage space too.
