  2. scotch pads are your friend in this instance... the word you're looking for is "patina"

Just remember that ratty often equates to needing work a lot sooner than if it was painted properly

  3. Yeah I get u dude and I'm well up on the patina front but I don't think it's kinda what I had in mind it is burnt like you said with scotch but I'm struggling to get pics of bays that have been painted new an made to look like this

  4. did mine in winter just a bit here and their around door handles /vents .etc. polished top coat through with rubbing compound and buffer from bodyshop so it just cuts through top coat and still keeps the shine . dont have any photos close up but if you look on springcamp photos you might be able to see a red tintop . if not i take some this weekend and post them up if its same effect your after .

  5. My mates van is probably an ideal example of what you're thinking of!!

It was painted black, then primed grey, then a white/off white top, followed by a good going over with a fair few scotch pads to cut it down!!

Edit. Opinions not allowed, Wrong thread!

  7. Yeah dude get some pics up for me that would be great ! Cheers

  8. The white van is not what I am after I'm afraid it does still look like its in the prep stage I must agree sorry

  9. I can appreciate the effort that went into that white van (not a fan of rat look personally) but imagine how fantastic it would look with a slick paint job :)

In my opinion you cant fake weathering unless you are very skilled more so than painting it in the first place.
Most buses that are faked look fake from a mile away

  11. No pal I'm not trying to fake weathering I don't want answers of people slating me I am well up on my vws so don't need telling how to suck eggs if you don't want to help me in a positive way I'd prefer if u didn't get involved

I am in no way slating you and each to their own but what exactly are you trying to do then if not falsely weather it? I thought you said you liked new paint where it is burnt through with a mop?

Sorry if you took offence i was no way slating you and i do appreciate the work that goes into making a shiny or a rat look bus and at the end of the day its your van and the main thing i like is the differences within the scene

You said you wanted to get the rat look by burning through the paint
My opinion is its very hard to get the look and a lot of vans look poor when its faked
I don't know your skill level so am not able to slat your ability to pull it off so was no way slating you

  14. Last time I checked this was an open forum. You yourself have slagged the white bus and surely that is the look the owner was trying for.
You seem to find it hard to fully explain the look you are after yourself, so how can someone who is clearly trying to help get your idea 100%, I certainly don't as I have never seen it!

  15. Exiptoy ermmmmmm no I did not slate it I said it wasn't the look I was after maybe learn to read correctly first ;)

  16. I have no problems reading dude that is what you were inferring. My point is this, the guy was maybe just offering an opinion not looking for you to spit the dummy and ask him not to post. If you don't like something you can simply ignore it.
....and it's ExUptoy. As said my reading is fine.

Some people are incapable if writing what they actually mean. This thread proves that point.

  18. Ok cool but if u read what I was asking for it says nothing about me wanting folk to tell me that forced patina looks Marmite I asked if people would be good enough to post me some pics otherwise I would have asked for people's opinions on if its a shot idea or not but I don't so anyone who wants to post opinions is on the wrong thread
