  1. The Road Fund Licence Disc
Why? When speaking to people in garages doing MOTs etc it would appear that there are loads of cars driving around without Tax,MOT and I would imagine Insurance, so NPR cameras would appear not to work.
The good old tax disc, I know could be forged, but police or parking wardens could look around and if no disc or out of date disc at least have a ready visual indication and have the vehicle clamped.
If I have to pay for Road Tax MOT and insurance then everyone should pay

There is nobody "on the street" to check.

  3. Why would people in garages doing MOTs know that there are lots of people driving round without?
Sounds a bit like, bloke down the pub told me!

My local used to do about 200 classic MOTs a year. Apparently when the rules changed everyone said they would MOT anyway but only 3 did!
I think an MOT station can tell when there's a downturn in business, but then again a lot of people have been enjoying a 3 month Covid extension so it's probably collapsed temporarily!

  5. They are relying on nosy neighbours inputting your licence plate into their website then snitching on you.

Even if they were a general all round bad un? If their car is untaxed doesn’t that nullify their insurance as well. I’d rather some nosey neighbour dobbed them in and their vehicle is taken away from them before they run into someone who does pay their tax and insurance.

You can do that if you wish already via ze gov tax checker jobby and dob in your neighbour as you see fit but where would you stop? Next door neighbour? The corner of your street?
    Police are for policing.

That’s true but they can’t be everywhere. Otherwise we might see or hear a bloke beating up his wife/girlfriend and think, it’s not for me to get involved, it’s police work. There is a scale of things I reckon. Perhaps a tax disc doesn’t figure that high on the scale until the tax dodger runs into the back of you.

My wife's friend sent me a text to tell me my MoT had expired when she saw the bus on Facebook....I gave her the benefit of the doubt that she was being helpful.

  14. A garage that does MOT would know and haven't been to a pub for ages ;) I know there was an extention to MOT but that has now finished

I think it would be more important to have a "insured" disc rather than a "taxed" disc.

The whole no-tax-disc thing relies on people driving past police cars with ANPR cameras. A rarity.

  20. Absolutely, you may get the very occasional roadside ANPR checks haven't seen one for ages mind,
I think we were all led to believe that the whole national roads system would be covered by them,
    So bring back the Disc
