Brazillian bay bumper fitting

  1. I did it the hard way and in the end i wished i'd gone for drilling the deformation panel to suit the bumper, theres a lot to take into account when drilling the holes in the bumper, because the bolts come out at a slight angle. if i were to do it again i'd just rivnut it on the bumper holes

  2. The one on mine is Fibreglass and its been on for a number of years now. Its fibreglass and the holes are in the correct place for late defo panel:

That said Ive had my defo panel swapped now and can fit a steel one. Im seriously considering going fibreglass at the back as well as my Brazzy rear is shot!

  3. Are the Brazzy bumpers Marmite quality then? Ie thin?

  4. I think so but i dont think mine was prepped that well!

  5. I seem to remember a guy selling some at Dubfreeze based primarily on their weight....as in "Go on! Pick it up! See how heavy it is."
First thing I'd do if buying new steel, would be have it blasted and stoved.....Save you renewing in a couple of years time

  6. Dont know about JK but ours are from VW Brazil and are steel.

  7. I have a steel one with the Brazilian mounting holes (wrong for lb), I considered doing the riveting of the deformation panel as suggested, but decided to close off the holes in the bumper and drill new ones instead since i'll be painting it again anyway, as i was covering the ugly number plate indentations and holes too.

It's a bit tricky to find where to drill, but i managed. i stuffed some paint soaked paper towels in the def. panel holes and carefully positioned the new bumper up to see where paint marks are left. double-triple checked, and all looks good. The number plate should never go on the bumper, it disrupts the flow of the design. (imho)

My rear is a modified splittie bumper. - very heavy, thick steel.

  9. I have fitted prototype bay bumpers front & rear to me late bay - front one takes a bit of messing about with, but rear early bumper fits on ok, you just have to straighten out the brackets as they are stepped and the late bay requires straight brackets.

  10. That looks awesome grub!

So when you open the door you have two steps in.. Nice.

  11. Yeah those early bumpers look great on a late bay

  12. best of both worlds - prototype bay looks with late bay 'driveablility'

  13. Got any more details, i want to do the same on the front but mines chrome :(

  15. Fantastic job there @grub. But you cant beat a Brazilian for ease of fitting - 4 Bolts (easy as sliding a 911 lump in eh!)

  16. Hmmm a slim line conversion bracket in stainless is needed

  18. What's one of them?

  19. A bracket that takes the bolt holes of the brazzilian bumper but alllows you to use the original bolt holes of a late bay
It would make the bumper a bolt on mod

Now ive posted it you will find a company offering the brackets within a month

  20. Ive no idea why no-one does. Cant be that hard!
