Bottom pulley question

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by the crumpets, Sep 23, 2012.

  1. How much torque is needed to fit the bottom pulley? or is it just a case of tight is right, loose is no use.

I am replacing my standard original bottom pulley. To get it off was a right jedi test, needed a breaker bar and thought i was going to pull the van off its axle stands.

    Cheers

  2. Haven't got me Haynes here, but 35 lb/ft rings a bell. May be wrong tho'

  3. Not a reply as such, but one for the [glow=red,2,300]mods[/glow], (are you there?)
I have to assume that as a type 4 engine does not have a "bottom pulley" this one must be about a Type 1 engine. Many such confusions can, and do, occur on here, especially for newbies who don't know one end of a spanner from a thrust bearing.
I have a suggestion. Instead of the very general "Engine" category, why not have two - Engine Type 1, and Engine Type 4? That way those who know nout about one or the other engine type can be saved from posting daft things that just confuse everyone? And at least those that don't know what kind of engine they have will be motivated to ask before posting?
For example I know that a Type 4 fan hub needs 23lb ft. No idea about a bottom pulley!
