US singer Bob Dylan has been awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize for Literature, becoming the first songwriter to win the prestigious award.

The 75-year-old rock legend received the prize "for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition".

The balladeer, artist and actor is the first American to win since novelist Toni Morrison in 1993.

Didn't win it for his imaginative use of chords either.

    Fascinating but useless fact.
Dylan is one of five people still living who appear on the Sgt. Pepper's album cover. Dion, Larry Bell, Paul and Ringo are the others.

  9. I can admit to having a few Dylan albums as a young man.

  10. You can't fault the man. The number of styles he has covered, the impact on other music and the sheer hard working he does. (was constantly on tour for years).

Might not be your cup or tea but you can't argue the talent.

  11. I'll give you that one - just think a lot of his stuff all sounds the same, could never get into it

I didn't really get into Dylan until my 30s. Wish that'd been earlier. You soon realise that his music absolutely does not all sound the same :)

    (Van Morrison still eludes me.....)

It was Astral Weeks that put me off him in the first place :)

(Like the sound of Astray weeks mind, Ashtray Weeks better still!)

Love a bit of Bob, although when I last saw him live he was pretty awful. Got many of his albums, still sound great. And to me, definitely not all the same.
(Seen Van Morrison live too, and I must say he was rather dull, can't beat Brown Eyed Girl though)

  16. I remember him and Keith Richards doing a "duet" of sorts whilst both zonked out of their skulls.

  17. Bought his first 2 albums in 60s

Best ever put down line " ..... if you could stand inside my shoes .......... you'd know what a drag it is too see you"

PS, I've seen some comments on Youtube where people seem to think that is a genuine recording!

  20. Think he was a bit of an acquired taste. His nasal whine in the early years could grate a little but like Marmite there was no middle ground.
