I think one thing that the insurers may be doing with not fitting trackers any more but still tracking, is you can use their app running on the phone itself as a tracker, and use the accelerometers in the phone to detect violent cornering and acceleration - so a car with a phone in a holder in the dash may have a better tracker than a black box tracker built into the electronics.

And I believe there are some cars where you can enable or disable performance features based on the ID chip in the ignition key or fob.

HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU?????? GIVE me his (your) beautiful Herald convertible and he (you) SAVE £400 a year.
I believe that is known as a win-win.
    You’re welcome! :):hattip:

I know a lad who had his insurance cancelled after doing double the speed limit, he kept getting messages with his weekly/monthly driver score etc, but it was months before they finally pulled the plug on him!

I take it this black box business starts once they have past the test, My daughter is picking up her first car tomorrow, a Citigo, the insurance is £350,She was 17 this month, I expect it to rocket if she passes. I could get no provider to tell me how much by though

  7. That's actually fairly impressive, considering the 3 vehicles you drive regularly are not known for lightening acceleration and overall top speed. Unless your mum lets you borrow her 911 turbo.

Go online and do a quote on a site that caters for new pass and young drivers as if she has already passed. A black box is a way of monitoring their driving, it does bring the initial cost down though

My eldest got insurance on his classic beetle from Adrian flux for £650 when he was 18 but it wasn’t classic insurance just old beetles are cheaper to insure for some reason, but the youngest doesn’t want a bug as he saw what the eldest did to it when he crashed it.

He asked me about the black box option and I had to confess I knew not a lot, but know a forum the will.

I’m putting this thread down as a distinct lack of TLB knowledge :(

    I am too!
For a lifelong pootler, I do occasionally have these random moments of unrestrained carefree abandon... who’d have thought it?

I did one, many years ago, then if you were naughty again within 3 years, or had been done within the previous three years, the option of another "speed awareness " course wasn't an option.

    That’s the same now.
Luckily, one of mine was in a local 20 zone. As that’s not national, it doesn’t count.
