Cheers dude - I had a feeling I wouldn't have to but thought it bet to check. Now, may as well make a list of things I need whilst I'll be heading to GSF in the morning....
I find the high cork content gaskets the best. If your bales are loose it may be worth changing them too. They should be really tight to get on and off.
Does anyone know of hand how thick the cork gaskets are? Im just wondering if a slightly thicker cork gasket sheet is available to aid those with weepy and tired covers As long as you had an old gasket it would be no drama cutting out the outline with a scalpel from a sheet of cork gasket or a cork floor tile It may even work out cheaper than buying the gaskets
Don't use grease... type 4 rocker gaskets are best fitted dry... the grease can make them slippery and when you compress them, they can pop up inside the head and you'll still have the same problem!!
I would leave it as it is. It will keep tailgaters of your tail. I've often thought about installing a mechanism that drops oil onto the exhaust whenever someone gets too close for comfort and give them a face-full of smelly smoke.
I wimped out today as I was struggling to get a grip on the retaining clip to prize it off due to the heat exchanger being in the way a bit... I might give it another go tomorrow. I'm sure the 1600 ones are easier to get to...
Use a screw-driver to prise the bale up or down, whichever has best access. If you can do it by hand they're too loose really.
I was trying to lever them down as I had read somewhere not to lever them upwards (though couldn't understand what difference it makes). It definitely doesn't move by hand...
Down or the cover gets trapped. Prisage required to get started, or thread a rag or cord around it and pull.
