Gears, not brakes in icy conditions Was always interesting counting the cars in the fields on the way home from work when I lived on the fens
Same stretch a few weeks ago one morning when it was a bit wet there were two lads in suits standing next to a Golf looking sheepish. They'd lost it on a corner, hit the river bank and catapulted across the road backwards into a hedge. It's 50ft from a 30 limit, a 40mph corner when it's dry. I steered around them.
Serious question. How do you stay warm inside your van? Propex heater? I've spent ONE night out in the winter in my van and was so cold I thought I was going to die - be found thousands of years later mummified like Pete Bog. There was nothing I cd do to warm up,... put loads of clothes on, hot water bottle.... except put the cooker on. Then I worried about carbon monoxide. Jeez that was a bad night.
I froze one time at techenders and had even been lent an extra blanket. I had on joggers, jumpers and a balaclava and could not get warm When I camped this oct I put more layers of bedding under me and slept inside a sleeping bag under duvet and blankets and was fine. Tho it may have helped that I was away with an old school friend and we reverted back to our younger selves and just drank, smoked and chatted all night Other good tip - don't sleep alone when my partner deigns to camp in the cold it's always warmer with two in the bed . Unless she leaches all my heat and robs the blankets
@Kkkaty all I have is a thin summer duvet underneath me and a thick heavy duvet over me and dressed no heating. Don't like to put the gas on as it adds more moister to the air which freezes . I use to work outside all year and its shorts all year so I guess I'm hard.
Hmm.. Ok. If I do it again I'll do that, but first take @Merlin Cat's advice and abduct someone off the street into the van to act as a hot water bottle. I'll tell the police T!B made me do it.
@tuesday_wildchild are you really a Geordie?! @Kkkaty I think that would be a perfectly acceptable line of defence (as long as you let them go in the morning!)
minus 5 in France this morning ,but still in shorts cycling with the mutt... Not a day for doing the living room windows ,but I still did them ,log burner full blast with a room with no windows....
I've camped a few cold nights in mine... I did a late Nov holiday in my van on the west coast of Scotland... Sleeping bag and a 13.5 tog feather duvet on the top... was toasty!! Although waking up with damp on your face isn't pleasant
