On my way to pick up done paint thus morning I saw a biodiesel manufacturer that is advertising straight biodiesel at £1.10/ltr and 50/50 mix at £1.25 /ltr. As may Main concern would be obviously the environmental benefits (not because i'm a tight arse, oh no) of using biodiesel I want to use the straight stuff and wondered if anyone knew if a 2002 mercedes vito 110cdi could use this. Does anyone use biodiesel on here....?
make sure your injection pump will run on it, it does play havoc with the rubber seals i wouldn't use it on a "modern" diesel myself, i used to run my old landrover on any old crap including straight veg oil from the shelf at aldi etc but be very careful.
Yeah, it's not a good idea on modern "common rail" diesel, as it can clog things up... but if you've got a TDi with a cam belt driven pump, then you should be fine
Hmmm looking into this over lunch it may not be the best idea..... I guess saving a few pence per litre isn't worth it if i screw the engine up. Thanks for your input.
even then a tdi doesnt always like to run on veg oil mix. landrover 200tdi up to about 70/30 was fine but a 300tdi gummed up after a few thousand miles and it would struggle with anything past 50/50.... not to mention the seals got eaten in the more modern pump.
go onto a biodiesel site...they have lists of every model and make plus any modifications you'd need to carry out....
Iv'e been using biodiesel for two years in my Peugeot hdi, it's never been a problem. every now and then i'll put half a tank of normal diesel in to mix it up, but I reckon that's just for my piece of mind. It probably does nowt I won't put it in the new beemer thou not yet anyway
