best van cover?

  1. What is the best option for a year round cover for a t2 when kept outside? - as always i'm sure this has been done but cant see it in a topic search. (no points for "a garage").

  2. Adrian Flux? ;)

Loads of folk have the JK one...can't vouch for it myself though.
There's a school of thought that says covers keep moisture in, and you're better off leaving it to the elements, but if the cover's breathable, that scuppers that argument...

  3. JK's cover is alright, handy door access flaps and a decent enough fit but I'm not expecting it to last. The high purchase price is a hard hit to swallow but it does keep the bird muck off and stops the battery boxes flooding below the vents. I've wrapped extra straps over it for this storm coming in.

  4. I forgot which cover I put a few posts up last year with the model but its good multi layered and worked well last winter

The Hamilton Classic is supposed to be good. The JK one is ok as long as you take it off for a blow through regularly. They're not actually water proof though.

  6. The JK one will do more damage than good , the Hamilton one is fab for 200 ish quid 4 layer breathable and soft inside to avoid scraping paint . You generally get what you pay for

I used a JK one for years with no damage to the paint. They're fine so long as you strap them down well.

  8. JK here as well but agree with Baysearcher. Get the cover off regularly during Winter for a blow. Then again, you need to do this to take the van for a run

  9. The JK lets water in !!!!!!!

  10. only if you leave the zips open !

Maybe when its older but I speak as I find. Had it through last winter for the first time, wind, rain and snow. No problems.

  11. every time it rains, even with the zips zipped :)

As said about 50 times the JK ones aren't sold as waterproof. Mine kept the van dry if there was a quick shower. If it persisted it down it let water through.
It does exactly what they claim it does. If you want fully waterproof spend twice the cash. Simple really.

  13. I had a JK one, it was ok for the first 2 months....after that water seeped through and puddled in the poptop

....as I had my front screen out, the puddle in the poptop (under the cover!) would overflow into the gutters, then run along and through the front screen opening. Once it was wet, it clung to my van like a wet flannel.....its a shame as I loved the zip opening doors and built in securing straps.

JK one would be great if used as an indoor one in a garage or even under a car port ....but not outside IMHO

I've just bought a storm force cover. Only had it on for a couple of weeks so too early to say if it is any good......it is currently water proof and hasnt let water in......it did blow off in some high winds though as I hadnt bought the optional securing straps :(

now I have fitted the straps and Mrs Diddymen has sewn on an extra one for the length of the van it seems to be holding up to the strong wind

  14. and puddled in the poptop

Stick a couple of footballs in the luggage rack of a Westy Poptop. Helps to stop the puddling

  15. Wax the van, leave it out in the open and drive it every weekend. Only way to keep the rot at bay...

  16. Paul Weeding had a quite lengthy thread on this a few months ago, check his thread content. JK cover give it a good spray of nikwax direct.

  17. Nikwax, are we talking softshell or TX or solarproof?

  18. We have a outdoor carcoon which is certainly a cheaper option than building a garage. It's cheap to run and the air is constantly re circulated through filters. We highly recommend it.

  19. A Carccon eh? What happens when you get snow on it, does it collapse?

I've had the JK one that came with the van for 3 years. Yes, it's not waterproof and sticks to the van when raining properly.

I dry it off as others have advised.

The biggest benefit I find is it's more secure, it's not obvious what the van is or the condition of it, my van sits on the front drive and I much prefer it covered.
