I agree with many of you - can't name just one BOAT. Over the last 65 years of buying records I have gone through so many favourite artistes as my tastes have changed and those favourites still remain on my list - Elvis , Shadows, Beatles, Dylan, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Clapton, Cream, Delta/Chicago Blues Men(which triggered my pathetic blues-harp playing) , Led Zeppelin etc., etc. Each one usually triggered by an epiphany moment of hearing the first chords of one of them -from Heartbreak Hotel, then Apache and so on. Perhaps my biggest epiphany was in 1969 in the student's common room at my girlfriend's (now Mrs Cunny)college and someone put an LP on the record player in the corner and I heard the first chords of "Whole Lotta Love" (having totally missed out on Led Zep 1) and Led Zep pushed out Jimi as my all time favourite . So for that moment alone it has to be Led Zep 2 .
I thought about what was my favourite album yesterday, and today it's different. It's just not possible to have a single favourite. Luckily I bought myself a huge iPod just before Apple so wisely discontinued them (wtf?!) and ripped all my CDs onto it. There's still loads of room left. Now I usually have my entire music collection on one huge shuffle - that's my favourite album!
I have all of @Lasty ’s vinyl and he has my 160gb iPod. great swap!! (I think I’m just looking after them though )
I found a box of my old tapes in the shed. They were from the early to mid 90’s and I thought I’d Google…. The 9 or so real tapes would cost about £150 of you were to buy them from these resalers. Most of them aren’t particularly special!!
Impossible to say but if I had to choose just one it'd be Revolver. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLg5pp7nrH0IqV2ESEZmmgWtECbzkS8d3O
