  1. Please feel free to add to this selection of crap tips for surviving the winter.

When confronted with a frozen windscreen on these cold & frosty winter mornings...

...one of the most energy efficient ways of dealing with it...

...is simply to put a hot water bottle on the dashboard whist you nip back into the house to enjoy a full Scottish breakfast -

    - you know, a fag & a cup of tea.

Well, it's a load of cobblers!

i use warm water out of the tap but put your wipers on soon after before it re freezes

  3. wee on the windscreen :) nice and warm and free

  4. I just use cold water and a quick wipe over with a scraper if it is bad because warm/hot water can crack your windscreen if not carefull!

  5. Any tips on clearing this?

  7. ive use warm water from the tap,

  9. Light a parrafin greenhouse heater sat on a plate/tray before you go to bed and your vehicle will be frost free in the morning

If you dont like the smell use lamp oil as its more refined than parrafin and you can add essential oils to it like lavender oil

are these supposed to be crap or not? para yours would work... surely a crap version would be "sleep in your van with an unventilated gas appliance on and don't wake up ever, thus negating the need to defrost your windscreen"

  11. One that works is a sheet of cardboard over your windscreen.

One that is crap: use vaseline, spread it over your windscreen and it'll never freeze over. That said you'll never see out of it again either (or be able to remove said vaseline)

but with vaseline everything would look great as it would be in soft focus, plus any pedestrians you hit through poor visibility would simply glide off

  13. I use cold water on the screen with the wipers going .free the wipers first by pouring water on them.I use a watering can

  14. there's a town down south here where it never snowed in more than 100 years until last year. It's amazing what ideas people who have never dealt with frozen windscreens or snow will come up with. ;D

Some of them thought it was a good idea to break the ice with an axe.

  15. What I did this morning is put the cooker on for half hour in the bus. Nice and toasty when I got in.

  18. done a bubblewrap material screen cover on mine last night cos on sat. morn (6am ish) i spent 20 mins scraping windows ,screen wrap worked a treat, i have heard screens can go if boiling water applied ,makes sense ,(2 rapid expansion, and all that) i wouldn"t take the risk meself, thou do use warmish water >>>(boiling )water goes over my locks, which at that time in morn and low low temp. quickly refreeze.
