bel housing for type 4 engine set up for bench running

  1. need to bench run a couple of type 4 engines. hence looking for a bell housing so i can mount starter motor. Anyone got one ??

    Cheers

  2. Any late/76 on bell housing will be ok :)

  3. Different gearboxes have different sized bell housing though don't they?

    For example a 1600 bell housing wouldn't accommodate a 2ltr flywheel (218mm)

  5. BTW it was the thickness of the flywheel/clutch pressure-plate that changed, not the overall outer diameter ;)

  6. Of course, that'll be why my 228mm flywheel didn't fit the 1600 box. It was wedged between the housing and the box itself.

Without the box, just the housing any bell housing would be fine (after 76). You see simple things sometimes don't add up till someone points out the glaringly obvious.

  7. Thanks for all the input guys, but i still need a 76 onwards bellhousing, anyone got one?

  8. come on guys someone must have something lying around they dont need. Otherwise i will have to get the misses to hold the starter motor on to the flywheel.
