Bees ....how to persuade them to leave

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by lhu1281, May 12, 2017.

  1. Stuffing the wall with wire wool or anything else for that matter at the end of the season doesn't work either apparently. I did that last year and apparently they just lay dormant/eggs or sumffing. In the spring/summer they become active again and get all peed off and just find another way out.

I had them appearing in rooms inside the house before they made another entry/exit in the wall. I think Im going to try something a bit stronger as I have small children and the exit point is above our exit point (front door). If only I could find the queen to lure the lot out.

I also have small tennis ball shaped nests in the loft but don't know which type makes those?

  2. Just bee firm with them and tell them to leave, don't use a waspish tone of voice as they don't like that.

    oi you buzz off

  3. Could be a swarm as some have been flying over the last couple of weeks on warm days - if so will be less than 50000 bees in fact could be as few as 5000. Would offer to help, but have just had to give up beekeeping after many years due to severe allergic reactions - no good having a hobby if it kills you...

I would urge anyone not to be brave and to take precautions, whilst swarms are good natured (contrary to fears and directors of cheesy 70s films), as I found out I was allergic by accident and after only a partial sting, and according to the hospital it is common...

  6. Actually have you tried turning off your wifi?, no internet connection generally makes my teenagers leave the house. Might work for bees as well. Worth a try.

  8. yes I did that last year ..I think they were mortar bees and waited till they went and blocked the hole ...I can hear these when in bed and wife is allergic to bee stings ...last thing I want is to kill them just help them find somewhere more suited .....I`ll go up the loft and have a looky see maybe get a pic of one so it can be identified .........

  9. So climbed up the loft and in the furthest corner I found them , didn't want to disturb them but they were coming out the rock wool .. look to be same bees I had last year that were in the wall ... best pic I could get without peeing them off [IMG]

    you have 3 options
1 let them be and block up the holes in winter
2 find someone willing to try and pick them up and move them to somewhere suitable (Start with beekeepers, local wildlife group, pest controller
3 Kill them or get a pest controller to kill them

  18. Barbuts cuckoo or ??? From reading the link I'll see if we can put up with them if they are only around for a couple of months .then block every thing up when they go

Give them some wood and they'd build a new interior for your bus!

  20. Carpenter bees aren't a problem. Eventually they will stop eating and die by themselves.

You might have to tolerate a few months of dreadful hippy music first though.
