Went and had an official visit today(not just for work) Great tour and a very knowledgeable guide. I'll put pics up and let the super geeks see if they know the marks of spitfire from each other and the markings. (I know the answers so no BSing!! Lol) and the hurricanes. Also stood under the Lanc and heard all about it. Who can tell me what the decal means, also the significance of the bomb stickers. Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using Tapatalk
I’ve got on my shorts I bought at Duxford a few years ago I have poo reception so can’t download the stickers. Is one an ice cream to say an Italian plane had been shot down?
The yellow bombs indicate bombing raids, the red ones mean bombing raids on "The big city" which was Berlin and the ice cream cornets indicate bombing raids on Italian targets.
Yes the u2, i seen it take off from fairford, early in the mornings, really noisy and climbs up really quickly
Our parent company, Spectris PLC used to be called something different which I cannot recall, however they owned a large part of the Fairey Group and Fairey Aviation Hydraulics had a big role in the hydraulic systems on those along with Lockheed Martin (the nickname for the aircraft was The Oxcart ?).
Forgotten they're still flying. Probably a few cruising over Ukraine, keeping an eye on Johnny Russkie.
I used to see it a lot out in Cyprus It was tradition for the pilot to down a can of keo lager straight after landing. First time I saw it I got a proper bollocking for taking a picture and my camera confiscated .
My dad flew those spitfires and hurricanes during his time with the BBMF in the late 70s. This is a page from one of his logbooks:
Worth getting a copy of "Skunkworks" if you like that kind of thing. Goes through all of Kelly Johnson's weird and wonderful creations https://www.amazon.co.uk/Skunk-Work...=1686406904&sprefix=skunk works,aps,81&sr=8-1
I think the B1s are in town to remind Vlad what's in store for him if he gets much crazier. Bit of sabre-rattling.
