Ball bearings, what grade?

If i wanted some bearings for a steering box, what type should i get?, too many choices

hardened chrome steel
316 stainless steel
420 " "
or
440 " "

 

Chrome steel would be what was originally fitted... I'll have to check the stainless to see how it compares

Ok, after a bit of reading, chromed steel is what you want for a long service life
