Better off in the long run, where else would you find a job with the same freedom? Probably just looks worse being stuck at home/work.

The trip would have been nice. Your job can pay for another at some point.

  7. @Lord Congi i feel for you. i had the same last year, got very close but in the end kept my job. Would have been happy to go (and in fact, came very close to putting in a voluntary request) but as others have said, ultimately its a good thing to be in work i guess. One guy who went got a chunk of money, bought a race car, now does contracting on double the money i make. Not jealous at all, noooo..

  18. congrats - in the long run in this day and age its probably for the best. Unfortunately nowadays employers have to put everyone in the same job at risk before deciding ultimately who goes so they can evidence the thought process and outcomes. it does mean that more people have to go through the pain though.

  20. It is good news for you. You still have a job to bring in the money.

Ask yourself what was the reason for your firms decision to make you redundant and what happened to cause them to change their mind and keep you on.

Do some soul searching about yourself and your skills and learn more about your firm. Look around and find out about the jobs market. Dont just do nothing as its not business as usual. Redundancy may come one day and you must be prepared.

The world of jobs is ever changing and you must do the training courses to keep up to date. I think a lot of the problems with redundancy is folks have been in a job too long, skills are outdated and the employer is too mean to pay for the training. So when redundancy comes, folks are left high and dry and cant get another job. Thats when the employers take on workers from the EU because they have the skills they are now looking for.

I have experienced redundancy for that very reason and it is life changing, mostly for the better in the end. I took a package, spent money on training and went on to do contract work for double the money and I was in control of my life. Never looked back.
