You may remember a month or so ago i asked a question about my pilot light going out on the gas fire, it's a coal effect one and it popped and farted and used to blow the pilot out and then obviously shut the thermo couple off and the gas - as it should, well anyway i got British Gas out to it today and they cleaned and serviced it and it's all ok now (pilot was all clogged up) it lights and stays alight however because he couldn't remove the fire from the fire surround (if i recall it was sealed in with a type of silicone) he said he couldn't test the flue properly and as such he had to advise us not to use it and put an "at risk" label on it, question for you, is he just covering his arse or is there a risk that somehow the flue would have shown a fault? i'm sort of lost with what to do 'cos if he can't remove the fire and say it's safe it seems a bit of an odd thing to do..... on the plus side because he left it in an "unuseable" state i don't have to pay, and it's lovely and warm and it hasn't turned off either.....

  2. He should have carried out a spillage test which has to be done with the fire in posistion and the flue warmed up, instructions for the test are sometimes on the fire or a ali label attached to the fire , also a flue flow test , ( smoke pellet in the flue to look for leaks and to make sure smoke is only omiitted from the correct terminal and no where else ) the spillage test will show if any products of combustion are entering the room , also with his flue analyser he could have done acarbon monoxide room test , strikes me he couldnt be botherd

  3. Get a carbon monoxide detector in the room and use it to your heart's content.

 oscar, you get paranoid though.... i swear i've got a headache and isn't that the 1st sign of carbon poisoning?

  11. If you can't take it out you could always look behind the fire with a mirror and torch.you need to inspect the builders opening for a build up of rubble which could if left unchecked could restrict the flue

  13. Shut the dog in the room for an hour with the fire on. If his tails still wagging after that your fine. :)

Go to the fire station. They will GIVE you a CO detector. CO is about the sme density as air so bung it somewhere about the height your head is when you're sat in front of the fire browsing porn and you'll be fine.

I think your posting rate has slowed down Ricky - stick your head out the window for a bit ;)

  18. That's cool. Just keep popping out the room to make tea and go outside for a bit. The dog and your mrs will be ok.;)
