Are there any bikers on here?

  1. The reason I ask is that I help a bloke in North London who has a bike. He is quite vulnerable and recently was involved in some rather unsavoury biker gangs. He has got out of this completely, (returned the patches and all), but still wants to involved in the biker scene, (on the nice side but with denim and leathers preferably).

I thought I would put a few feelers out, TLB members being one. Most of us are nice and I can't think of a Hell's Angels sect in the VW scene. . . . hang on we might be on to something!

Anyway, any suggestions or advice would be most welcome.

    Thanks

  2. ... I'm a biker. Got a couple of bikes. A CB500 to commute on and a Ducati 748SP to break the speed limit on. On the track obv!

However, I'm not really involved in any "scene" unless you count the odd weekend away with mates blatting through Wales or Europe. Quite fancy a VW "Denim and Leather" thing though!

The Hells Angel London chapter house is actually next to The Premises recording studios in Hackney where I go. You often see them about. Got a garage inside so they can do repairs etc. Saw them playing catch in the street with a tennis ball once. I laughed out loud! Then stopped and went inside the studio pretty quickly!

  3. my advise would be stay clear of any past cohort's,stay focused on the future,it's worked for me along time,I'm not saying totally stay clear of his old mates -but he needs to make the change, the mental part will be the worse part not able to go to certain places or see certain people,he must have left with permition from the leaders 'cause usually when a bloke leaves it's usually ugly (unless he's in good standing)--chuck

  4. I'm a motorcyclist. Not a 'biker'. I think he will find it difficult to maintain an interest in the 'biker' scene and avoid the unsavoury elements. I wish him well.

  7. I must admit I love bikes and the vast majority of bikers I meet but the whole biker gang thing does my head in! They tend to be a bunch of old guys that seriously need to grow up and stop being thugs! I'm a pretty bikery looking dude and I hate the fact that you get looked at as if your about the stab someone just coz you've got a beard and a motorbike! I work in little old ladies houses all the time and I'm really chuffed when they say things such as "its been lovely meeting you" and "I'm going to stop judging people by the way they look" sounds ridiculous but I hear that more than you'd think!

  8. There are plenty more bike clubs than the patch variety, that make up more rules than modern society ???, plenty of owners clubs that have regular meets, some bike shops have ride out clubs for weekend warriors, or just to get involved with the myriad of bikers forums could be a starting point.

  9. He assures me that there is no comeback and he is out of it for good. The leaders may have made an exception due to his mild learning disability and the [glow=red,2,300]FACT[/glow] he has the bike but cannot ride it due to medical issues.

Well if he gets involved with this group he'll have mental issues ;D ;D if he didn't have any before

The whole biker scene must be real different there than here, i still wear a 'color' on the back of jacket but it's only a 2 piece instead of 3, i have more problems with wanna be's & hang around that actual member of the 3 clubs that live around here. most OMG's (outlaw motorcycle gangs) around really don't pay much attention to regular folk, i grew up in Rapid City South Dakota not far from Sturgis & i seen a lot of blood shed because idiots playing bad a** bikers, the ones i watch are the ones that are quiet laid back,

  10. As stated already there are other clubs he could get involved with.
I ride a harley, mostly on my own or with the missus, but am also a member of the Harley Davidson riders club of GB, great bunch of misfits, even madder (if thats possible) than the LB's ::)
But theres always something going on if you want it - rideouts, rallys etc. all over the country. You do as much or as little as you want and no one judges you on it!

  11. Been a biker all my life but not part of any gang as such. really like the biker fraternity thing. bit like the VW thing. Always give a nod to other riders out of town and it's an easy conversation starter.
If your mate doesnt ride a bike then he won't get that stuff. Best bit about bikes is riding them, preferably not in a straight line!
Oh yeah got an 82' BMW R80G/S (the one that started the super motad thing) and a ratty '85 R80 which i will be buried with...
    Cheers

  12. I use to ride bikes. Use to ride them very fast too. Went all over Europe on track days, the odd competition and race and all of that. Never got use to the Nurburgring though! But in 1998 I was on my way to Monaco to watch the F1 GP, on my 1997 ZX9-R and was involved in a head-on accident with a car. I can still remember flying through the air, working out how and where I would land, with the word 'please don't let me die' going through my mind and my mate's words, a Police biker, 'it doesn't matter how good you are, it's all the other buggers on the road'. It's amazing the stuff that goes through your mind in a split second when something like this happens. It was a bad smash. And I've never ridden since. Well, I tried it once and freaked out, to be honest. Mind you, I have recently started to lust after a GS1200 (those big tall BMW sort of off road bikes) and pretty much all other BMW bikes. I guess I never rode again because I discovered karts and got the speed fix from that.

  13. Had an R1200GS for a year or so. Great bike, phenomenal suspension, the bike sort of sinks rather than dives, electric servo brakes, great two up touring round the alps, blah blah blah . But had no soul.
    Sold it and got an '82 R80 G/S, that's a bike :)

I've had that flying through the air time slows down thing, scary..

    cheers

  14. I guess we've got to make a distinction between the bike groups

1 - outlaw bikers - not my favourites. Thugs and gangsters on 2 wheels.
2 - bikers - like outlaws but without the violence and crime. Generally a sound bunch
3 - motorcyclists - people who enjoy any bikes, European or Japanese

I belong to the 3rd group.

  17. I ride a motorbike, mainly for commuting but I go out for rides on weekends as well if I haven't got anything on, it is quite a nice community most of the time, people will always help and generally acknowledge you when you are out if they are riding in the other direction (not so much of that in London though, you'd be a bit like a nodding dog the number that you see). I don't really like the way people typecast either, I think that I look like a tit in my leathers, especially off the bike, it's definitely not a fashion statement to wear them. I've two kids and am a Chartered Accountant, so I don't really think that I would fit in with any "rebels", maybe the desperate conformers.

  18. When I had my bike and if I had a spare few hours on a weekend and my mates were working I would go to the local bike shop for a coffee and a ciggie, there would usually be a few people there and it would end up in a ride out somewhere. Got to know more people and got better on the bike too.

Got a bike license, but no bike :(

Was going to get a bike this summer, but with my arm in plaster it looks unlikely to happen this year.
