  1. place the thermostat carefully following instructions my sparks mate say it's the most common fault, placing the stat to close to the element

No furniture going in there then?
Is ok with furniture that has legs, but who heats their furniture?!

People seem to fit oversize for the room and bump up the Kw ...
Best is running tracks where foot traffic is, so maybe 1/4 to 1/3 of the floor area? Less M2 = less ££!

  11. Fitted loads.....
Whoever is fitting the cement boards, make sure they use the right kit....screws with bloody big washers, otherwise over time the screw heads will work loose in the board and there will be problems.
Loose cable is easy enough in a bathroom, you can work it around the fittings easily. Make sure the control stat sensor is fitted at least 50mm from the nearest cable to avoid false readings.
If the cable isn't very thick, them a slightly sloppy adhesive mix applied with a 10mm notched trowel will suffice, if it's the thicker cable a thin screed might be needed first.
Do a continuity test before it's down, when it's down, then after tiling....take a photo of each, if only to cover your arse if some other idiot damages it !
I prefer a standard set adhesive when laying underfloor....it seems to adhere better than rapid set.
Grout it asap (drop of pva in the mix too!), as exposed cable could get damaged.
Don't switch it on for a couple of days at least....give the adhesive chance to properly cure.
    Job done!

I’m a sparks by trade and therefore could have put it down all over the house if needed ...but I’m also a tightwad and it would never be switched on so a waste of money..

Good quality linoleum with a high asbestos content does us ok

    Dear all :)
Thanks for your reply’s and advice.

My favoured option is loose cable as the bathroom is to have a massive 1700 x 900 shower cubicle, an 800 x 1800 bath, a loo and a wash basin. After all of that the spare floor space is 3.5 m squared. So far we have put 6mm Hardie backer over the floor boards. The shower tray needs 18mm ply to sit on (manufacturers say) so there will be a height deficit on the rest of the floor that needs sorting. I think we will now have to screed to get the tile level above the bottom of the tray.

An electrician is coming to check and sign it off. I will do my best to remember 50mm and the stat. Also where we have rad pipes running under the floor. :)

Ms Cat does the 18mm have to sit on the floor boards or can you cut the floorboards and inset?

Now there’s an idea. :). Problem is the waste has to go through the next door room to exit the house so I’ve got a 3m run of 50mm waste pipe. This has needed all the drop I could get. Ta for the idea though.

I have met Mr Haynes and feel it’s only fair to him to inform you that he isn’t THAT fat.

    Ps isn’t that James Corden?
