Anyone ever used marmite as a sauce before to flavour something?

  1. Random, but curious............... I didn't realise it could be used in such a way.

  2. Anyone that's been in the military will have experienced equally strange wired flavour combos

    Marmite potatoes
    Honey and anything bland
    Chilli spam

  3. My old nan always put a spoonful in the gravy to give it a kick,

  9. Always put a big heaped spoon in my spaggy bol! Doesn't taste the same without it. Then again, I don't think you can beat it slapped on toast with loads of butter ...... mmmmmmmmmmm.

  10. I basted a turkey with it one Christmas, but TBH by the time we got back from the pub I would have eaten a scabby skunk so i cant really vouch for its flavour but a mate swears by it on a Turkey.

Agreed HF, ok on toast, but lets just leave it there please.

Mind you veggie-mite is basically the same and great for perking up bland veggie bolonaise and the like.

Spreading it on meat is just wrong though.o_O

That's Bovril. Marmite is made from brewing dregs. They used to just scrape it out at the brewery which is why marmite factories were always next to breweries, now they make it on purpose.
