I have spent all day trying to teach myself, thought Id start simple so have spent the day trying and failing with a double crochet, just tried a triple and I am flying? Anyone know why this would be. My double seemed too tight but I am using same hook and wool with the triple.

Jasper, well done on being man enough to hook up! It'll be your tension, a treble is a looser stitch because of its structure. If you try a bigger hook you may get a looser double but continuous double is a close weave stitch. The more you develop your own technique your tension will even out and you'll find that stitches that seemed too tight will have a more open structure and you'll be able to see the threads better and work out where the hook needs to be next. Hopefully that makes sense.
