Air filter box

  1. No no, I appreciate your concern, I paid a lot of money for the work, be pretty p***ed off if its all wrong. Fire is not what any of us want.
The fuel line was whats suggested from Machine 7 ????

  2. The hose looks fine (at least what you can see). It's the routing to the fuel tank that may be a prob. Does it go through the foam?

  3. I will have to check tomorrow as Im not 100% sure dude. If it does, is this something I can do fairly simple or does the engine and tank cover have to come out

There should (will) be a hole in the front (of bus) tin for the pipe to go through, but it's sized for a steel pipe + grommet, not rubber pipe.Either use that or drill a new one near the one the wires go through adjacent to where it disappears through the foam.
No need to remove anything, just clip the petrol pipe under the van to stop fuel draining from the tank, disconnect at filter and re-route through new hole.

  5. Guys, THANK YOU so much for having good eyes, this is what I found today

It goes out that gap and to the right above gearbox and onto a pipe from tank (all new hose with another filter just as it leaves the tank), from what I could see today.
Your right about the hole not being big enough, I will make that hole bigger and get a grommet to fit perfectly.

Thank you guys and most of all thank to snotty for having eyes like a hawk, good man

That's really not clever how its been done, especially if you paid someone who should have known better....
I'd change that crappy over braided stuff too as all the over raiding does is hide the fact the pipe is perishing until the point it pours fuel everywhere....
There's also no need for 2 filters so if it was mine I'd do away with the one in the engine bay.

  7. Shocking.

Name and shame, that's awful workmanship.

THIS is exactly the sort of bullMarmite that hacks me off when you are charged an arm and a leg and they don't do the simple things up to scratch. It's also not an accident - most of us trust 'experts' to guide and advise us on issues like this, not simply leave them as is (which is possible), or bodge it on their own accord.

The only justification is if the restorer never went/was never asked to look at this part of the bus - which I supposed earns a benefit of the doubt - however, if they worked on the engine/servicing then they should spot this - especially if Snotty can see it in the back recesses of a picture.

  10. I'm friends with the guy who done it, his work is good but with this, I dont know what he was thinking?????

Can I ask, will it be OK if it has the hose from the tank, clipped up and safe out the way, through that hole with a grommet and into that filter then to the carb???
Or do I have to have solid metal fuel pipe from tank through hole with grommet????

    Thanks

  11. The tinware adjacent to the nearside manifold appears to be lacking an M6 retaining screw. Sorry just thought I ought to mention it as rattling tinware can be irritating.:)

  12. Hose won't fit through the grommet hole. Two possibilities: as Zed said, drill a large hole near where the cable is, grommet it, then run the hose through that. You'll need to make sure it's well away from no 3 exhaust pipe. Get rid of the filter in the engine room. Second poss, which really you need if you love your van, is to buy the steel pipe & do it properly: pipe throgh tinware grommet, connected to hose under the van (supported on the "ceiling" over the transmission. Steel pipe curves round fan shroud and clips into spark plug lead clip on LHS. Short run of hose to fuel pump.

Unfortunately, I doubt you'll get the pipe in without dropping the engine, as it curves round the back of the fan shroud :(. Still...worth doing.

Re your mate: resolve matters by gripping his testicles tightly while shouting "d'yer give, d'yer give?" I don't know why capable folk do stuff like this. It's not as if it's difficult to do it properly :(...

Depending on your exhaust I wouldnt leave a fuel hose lying on the tinware as it moves around a lot and gets too hot to touch.

A possible solution to going through the bulkhead is in the T2 customs kit which has a length of 6mm copper tube pushed through a section of hose which wedges in the proper hole. This then joins to the fuel hose proper either side.
This also seems to be using a better hose, even so it is stiffening after 20000 miles or so or 2 years.

In my setup the fuel filter is a metal bodied filter attached to a chassis leg feeding to a solenoid valve shutoff before the fuel pipe goes into the engine bay. Originally the valve fed the filter but it kept jamming on fine dirt and immobilising the bus 10m down the road..

  14. The hose is pretty secure and not directly on the tinware, isn't that (where the filter is) the chassis leg ????

I'm sure if I make a new hole/existing one bigger with grommet it will be OK if secure and away from the exhaust etc

Trouble I have is that I'm bang outta money and need this bus to drive, I have booked some time away :(

I don't know what to do for the best now......this has caused a real issue.

  15. Should be ok as a temp measure if a) there's no poss of it chafing as it goes through the widened hole and b) on the other side, it's well away from the exhaust. If it's any consolation, when I first bought my van, the fuel hose was stuffed through the reversing light wiring hole - I used it for ages until I learnt better.

Filter should be ok where it is. Just keep a keen nose out for petrol smells.

    We're being pedants mr dodger.
The tinware it's squeezed past is a nice smooth folded over bit and would take many years to wear through.
So I'd say leave as it is for now and sort out at your convenience.
