They won't argue just give them your figure & 6 pics but they may limit your milage & insist it is garaged (locked)!
I'm guessing top of the market is 25k to 30k retail, always insure for more, I don't reckon I asked high enough on mine.
I think that's one of the problems that does crop up when going for an agreed value - some companies I called would only give me up to £15k because it wasn't in a locked garage. A-Plan weren't too worried that it was on my driveway behind a security post, but most others I called thought that it was an issue.
I went in high on my Beetle, I was being a bit cheeky, but the car has interesting history, they came and said, ok, but 2k lower, which was where I wanted to be. They will beat you down....if they think you pushing your luck.
I used A-Plan for both the Bug and the Bus, happy so far, but not needed to claim, so can't say......
I insure my Bay parked on driveway and MGB parked in locked garage, both with Lancaster and agreed valuations which are my own valuations based on realistic replacement costs. For your van, I would suggest 18k and they would need lots of photos of the van. If you had a total loss on the van, would you be happy with an 18k pay out. Typically total loss would be a fire (let it burn) or theft or severe accident damage costing more than your valuation.
While you’re at it Alex, worth getting on to the DVLA and changing the Vehicle Class to “Mexican Brothel On Wheels”
I asked for an agreed value on the LT and sent pictures etc. Guess who did got an email a few days later from an insurance company asking me to value a LT Woodlander?
There's a guy Gloucester way who's a moderator on earlybay, "Clem" (Mike Clemson) who's done official valuations for insurance purposes for over twenty years. Might be worth asking him whether he knows enough about later bays? He did me a valuation two years ago and there's an up to date one in the post for this year ... £10 a pop. Might do it off photos. You should go as high as possible to avoid it being written off if pranged and needing repairs as I think they use a percentage cut off point ... Mine is tidy, US LHD rust free unwelded, (but restored so not original paint) and would be lucky to get more than £20,000, at the moment, but the agreed "value" is £30,000 which is probably more about what it would set me back to start again than about what you could buy an equivalent for??
Was that carpet made from roadkill? My bus agreed value is what I paid for it and sent them copy of the invoice. If you've spent money on it, factor that in as well but I wouldn't go much above the going rate on ebay etc for comparable buses.
Some of the valuations people get are comedy gold. You could buy 2 lovely buses for £30k at the moment!
