Aftermarket trim?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Mr. B, Nov 17, 2012.

  1. Its been suggested that someone got a set of tape backed trim from Aldi/Lidl (or somewhere similar). A may be looking to replace the trim shown below. Any alternatives would be appreciated.

  2. Or if you know where I can get some original stuff, even better.

  3. That would be me.

I used Lidl aftermarket trim instead of earlybay deluxe trim. Comes in 5m rolls so you may need 2 rolls.

you have genuine vw trim which is rare and difficult to source, it was fitted to some australian models, swedish models and silverfish, you will struggle to get any replacements.

  5. They do come up occasionally... I picked up another set so I could replace my damaged pieces on the fish

not cheap mind... think I paid about £70 for mine, but I have seen it for sale for more!!

  9. I may not need a full set. Let's see how we get on. Would appreciate if you could keep me in mind for left overs though.

I'm sure when I originally read your first post you said your trim was fine, but would need to be removed for painting and you were worried it might get damaged in the process? Have you edited the post or am I going insane???

Paul - does this trim fit like early stuff on clips? If it does, perhaps you should prise it off very carefully. The early stuff comes off easily enough, I've had mine on and off without wrecking it. :)

  11. I've got it all off, just some of the bits are a bit scabby

It's a 2 part system, there is a plastic grommet fitted to the body, the trim has pegs fitted to it that go into the grommets...

  15. How about rubber earthing strips and fire over the wheel arches?

No worries, my bad - good luck with it. As always, the secret to avoiding months of searching for parts is to look after the ones you'vce got. :)

  18. Cheers Zed.

I'm told the clips are the same used on the Mercedes w123 trim, and these can still be sourced. These I can find.

  19. I have some. Not a complete set. Came off a mates bus he was going to chuck it but I managed to get to it in time. I' ll dig it out and let you know what I have.
