Afghanistan… what was the point of all that then?

Like you say just yet Chris . Murderous dictators always have a crafty gift in hoping no one does anything to them , but slowly but surely they move thinking that no one will take them on ...and like a threatened snake they are always prepared to fight till death . Seems to be the end result with dictators in time .
How to sort this lot out has to be a global unity that's if it ever comes to that .

They are powerful make no mistake about that .

 

We went to war in Afghanistan for opaque reasons, we left with the situation very similar to how it was found about 20 years earlier......brief description of the 1840 campaigns.....sound familiar?

 

We are on a weekend in London and walked past the Afghanistan Embassy yesterday evening, presumably just as the country was finally moving under Taliban control.

Eerily quiet, other than a few bunches of flowers at the door, with messages asking for Pakistan to be sanctioned for their collusion.....

 

you can add Russia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE and approximately 15 million heroin addicts to the list. Interestingly, aside from Russia, of the countries mentioned the UK and US export billions of dollars worth of arms and associated tech. So when a squaddy limps home with a prosthetic leg, it must be reassuring to know that the detonator used in the IED may have been made in corsham or wiltshire

Agreed, the reasons for going in are never good, I feel sorry for the soldiers and civilians who are caught between the politicians. Funny you mention the recent Russian invasion as the 1840 British one was down to playing chicken with the Russians then!
