A step too far?

  1. I very much dislike the rear tilts which sit higher than the cab so I designed and built it this way for my needs. It's actually a double skinned aluminium pod which sits on rails is demountable. I'm not one for sticking to convention

Well that's what counts, you like it as you own it.

  6. Embarrassingly I don't have a photo of it demounting, only of the build and even then only the late stage. I'm not good at photographing stuff. Here's an idea:

The tubes you see inside contain the legs with wheels on the end which slide and pivot out of stowage to support the end as you slide it off. Totally over engineered and almost pointless but was great fun to make!

  7. Great , I love it...:D

Was thinking you bus was a bit rubbish, but my opinion has changed....:hattip:

    dome things on the shed...?

  8. Aw thanks!

I like it - it's very me: Complicated, slow and slightly pointless but oddly likeable by a very select few of oddballs and misfits.

Domes on shed = nuclear jet bomber nosecones. Long story but I had an unusual previous life before going civvy and playing with veedubs

  9. I've got one for each side for each sliding door.....i like them, they break up the long sides visually. I reckon T4 style side bars would work better on a crewie though. There's a company on Ebay that make them for a T2 but to be fair you could easily knock some up from scaff pipe and a couple of cuts of steel box tubing as that's essentially all they are anyway lol

eyelids are for gayers and birds mind you :p

  10. still not found the pic I was after, this was the closest to what I was thinking might look good on yours

  11. You're a top geez for taking the time to look that up! I'm liking that idea much more, I think the shorter step will suit the narrower door much better and the fact it would bugger off out the way when not in use would fit nicely with my slidey pickup canopy theme nicely. All sorts of ideas brewing in my mind now - might start hacking up some box section and fire up the mig this week!

  12. I like a challenge, just a pity I couldn't find a better pic.

the ones I've seen look like they were made out of metal grid plate like this

they looked original, or certainly from the period

  13. My MG hasn't got any door handles either

  14. Yeah looks like the devon one was mesh as well

I had a good nose around this at eastnor (and a chat with @Captain_Dubnutz). The canvass cover over the Ali dome is genius and looks great in the flesh / canvass!

Lose the side step fella! :)
