Ours had one when we bought it, so we left it on. I think it makes it look like a camper rather than a van.
Yeah that's probably why it doesn't "fit". It's tricky as I'm using a pure commercial as a surf/day van - the rear cab is the change room and kitchen so to help make access easier it needs something but not something that makes it look too campery. I think @Diddymen has it sussed with the bars and grid idea to keep it looking a bit more cabby. It's raining again now so it'll bloomin' stop where it is for a week at least.
I have seen the type of step I'm thinking of ....just can't find a pic anywhere, I've been googling for ages. Think the ones I'm thinking of might have been on a Swedish or Dutch army t2 .....could have been an Australian one
It looks ok. As already said something a bit more industrial may suit. Mine serves as function for my family. Hate having to do anything on that side underneath though and my van is at standard height.
Ah that's pretty nifty, and a nice.little engineering challenge to fabricate which could be fun. Nice one @Lord Congi I like your thinking
No handle see...gotchya! It's a door to a whole other world which only us Doka types can enter. We're a special bunch (or gifted as my mum prefers to call it) Demonstrated here with my wife being played by Animal as she was otherwise engaged having a life..
Forget the step, someone's stolen your door handles!!! ...or is it like those posh 'soft touch' kitchen cupboards
The steps are OK unless your bus is lowered. Then you dont need them as much. And you can have a painful crunch with a kerb which either cracks the casting at the end (my bus) or it hauls the jacking point back as you catch it. Also the aluminium is somewhat interesting near steel as it fizzes and the corrosion products jam the step into the jacking point. And the fixing bolts end up fixed in with yellowish white dust rather than aluminium metal.
Thieving bawstards! Sadly a previous owner smoothed all but the drivers door. Ain't nothing soft touch about this old crate, she's smash and bang all the way! (though I'm thinking about solenoiding the passenger and crewcab door as I HATE having to clamber over everything to open 'em up)
Thanks @mikedjames I'm staying stock height as some of my fave boarding spots require decent clearance to get access so hopefully won't be catching kerbs at least. Old folk and cyclists however, we shall see
With the rain today Kermit jumped out from the verge on the lane in front of me - Animal witnessed the whole thing. It looked like pea soup with jam after. He's not taken it well at all.
