The majority of the bulkhead is now repaired I just need to finish the top bit where the box section of the arch fits.
I've managed to source a wheel tub body cut for the bargain price of £45 so will be looking to fit that and the arch once this is done!

  6. I made 4 ..:p
As it was with the arch in place,
    2 paper halfs..
then an slightly oversize one onto card...
Then marked up from inside for the butt welds..

Gonna weld onto the arch..on the bench.. Then weld the rest in situ..

But... It's still a long way of that ..

as I have to complete the inner arch welding
and clean and paint inside the arch..and
Fill some holes in the arch from spot weld drilling , and..and..

    Best go...:p

My wheel tub body cut arrived! It’s in such good condition compared with what ours looks like.

I’ve made a start on unpicking it and managed to salvage the fiddly curved bit from the B pillar which I should be able to use to repair the final bit of our b pillar.

What I hadn't realised was that the later wheel tubs curve differently where the seat mounts are. Ours is an early late bay so has the earlier mounts which look like they won't transfer across.
What are my options? Presumably I'll need to use the later style mount which will mean I'll need a late seat? (@davidoft, @brothernumberone any ideas).

You can either, unpick that runner, change the runners on your seat depending on seat type or it may be that your seat could slide into that runner, ive fitted late seats into early runners

I've also just discovered that buttys bits will shortly be doing the early style runner for the later style tub so could go with that.

  11. I think in the manual I welded early runners to the Vw Brazil wheel housing in the '79. The original housing had been cut out as the previous owner was planning to tub it I think. Early runners because the only seats I could find at the time were early style. I used a bit of box section steel cut in half to correct the curve.

Nice. These are the new buttys bits runners I reckon I'll put in.

  13. Did it work out cheaper getting a body cut rather than using the Brazilian panel or was it just because the OE German panel is better quality?

The Brazilian panels aren't available from what I can tell (I couldn't find anyone that had one). I think this will work out quite nicely as I've got an OE German panel for £45!

Donor driver’s wheel tub all prepped and ready to weld in. Even the seat belt mount is solid.

Finished off most of the B pillar and closing panel, bar a few pin holes.

Some more tough love for Iris, cutting out the wheel tub in preparation for the donor tub to go in.
