I'm going to invest in big fire extinguisher next! Half the stuff we bought for the van never gets used. At least we got to use it for what we bought it for! It's in for repairs now.
Glad it went so well. Guess you'll take the engine out ? cause the enginebay now needs a supergood wash, the powder from fire extinguisher will make it rust if not washed out properly
Loving the ref to the video being a rickyroo moment! i think you've been lucky but i would drop that engine out now and renew all pipes and wires that look remotely marked your engine will be fine for sure but it looks like there's a fair bit of wiring to tidy up, i've not got that card thing above the engine it does nothing benefitial i can see just fuel for the fire by the looks. Good luck with the repair, hope it's cheap, but don't cut corners, now is the time to replace anything that looks rough.
We are using as much of our house savings as required to pay for this to be done properly. I wish we had enough mechanical skills to sort it out ourselves & anywhere we could actually work on the place, but we've done the next best thing & taken it to the place Birdy works on his bus. I can't imagine it will be cheap but at least it should be thorough
You were very lucky, I did have a fire extinguisher but didn't know what to do & mucked up my chance of saving my van. I foolishly thought that if I opened the engine bay I would introduce new air & make it worse so I pumped it down the air vents. What you should do is open the engine hatch as soon as you can look where the fire is, direct the extinguisher there & then a blast at the roof of the engine bay which will allow a blanket to fall an any other areas that you didn't notice. Even better cary 5 of them 7 a fire blanket & 2 automatic ones like I do now. Glad your all ok & take it as a gypsies warning.
