  1. I've seen this advertised on a few forums & it always caught my eye. It helped that it was in Bristol so after a few phone calls I decided to go & have a look.
It's a mixed bag of early & late wings, front valance & deck lid & a 1200 non vented bonnet.
It was advertised as a 1600 GT but after closer inspection of the engine & shell it was discovered to be a 1200 base model with a 1300 twinport engine.
The guy was a bit pi#%ed as he honestly thought it was genuine.
It might have 1600 internals but the engine code is for a 1300.
The only issue is the framehead closing panel is rotten & needs quite a few patches of weld. Also needs a new rear wheel bearing.
I have an adjustable beam in the garage & some Atom cranked rear spring plates, so lowering it should only take a day.
    That's basically my plans.
Repair it, lower it & drive for the spring/summer.
    Here it is.........

Here's a rubbish pic of the framehead area.

  2. Very nice ,love the black and white...

  3. Thanks I kind of do & don't.
It looks like it was sprayed ready for the early belt line trim then they fitted the standard late trim so the paint line finishes above the trim instead of on it.
I was hoping to collect today but I can't get hold of my transport guy!

  4. Picked up the bug today & took it to the unit.
Worked out really well as the bus is off to the bodyshop for a month.
Working nights now so hope to get time on it during the day, hopefully.

  5. Had a chance to strip down the suspension yesterday to fit my Atomwerks arms & my adjustable front beam.

The rust on the frame head I need to sort.

  6. Seems like a nice project you got there!
How low do you want to go?

  7. I've got some 3'' Atomwerks plates to fit so we'll see where it sits & go from there
Here's the front. I fitted the adjustable beam & my scruffy GT wheels which I'm going to paint black.

I also gave the carb & quick tune & sorted the timing as it was running really lumpy.
Just waiting on a few parts to put the back end together.

  8. do you have the fail sheet? ,I noticed it has been tested and rejected...:D

  9. Ye it is basically welding to the frame head, no horn & sloppy rear wheel bearing.
I checked the rear hub & the nut was slightly loose with no spilt pin so I tightened it up & checked for play before stripping down again.
Arthur at M.A.D workshops is going to look at the welding for me.

  10. Been really busy on this over the last few days.
I started off by replacing the window regulators as both ratchets had seized. I initially bought some new ones from GSF but the fitment was really bad so I returned them & bought some good 2nd hand items.
I then painted the wheels satin black & fitted the centre caps.
I then stripped the rear hubs replaced the seals & gaskets as there was oil all over the back plates.
It was then I rebuilt the suspension.

Unfortunately at this height it's just too low & the engine is only about an inch off the ground so I'm going to go up 1 spline & fit a 65 profile tyre.

  11. Saw this on RR and was tempted. Looks a good buy - glad it found a good home.

  12. Cheers for that. I must admit I beat him on the price due to his advert being all wrong & the framehead welding issue.
I'm lucky in that I had all the suspension components in the garage so it hasn't cost me a lot to get it to this stage.

  13. I thought you might have. Fair play to you, sir!

  14. I've finally got the rear ride height to where I want it. I've got the job of doing the rear spring plates down to about 40 mins for both sides!!
I had a guy up my unit build me a tool that bolts to the chassis & lips under the spring plate, I can then wind it up with a ratchet spanner to raise the spring plate without jacks & stress.

When I'd done that I could finally do the driveshaft gators.

So it now sits like this,

The only job that I have left is to fix horn, steering alignment, & weld the hinges for the deck lid.
I also have an annoying clicking from the rear drive train when I drive, sounds like a cv joint kind of clicking!!!1

  15. Thought the GT wheels looked a bit naff in the first photo with them; didn't think they worked with the colour scheme. Painted black though, they look the business!
Nice colour combo and a sweet stance.

  16. Thank you I appreciate the feedback.
Hoping to have it moted next week ready for the summer.

  17. I've been really busy lately so I haven't had chance to get the car mot'd which is a shame as the weather is getting better.
I finally got round to fitting my Jeans beetle black trim with some new clips I ordered.
I also found out what the weird clicking noise was when I test drove the car at the farm.
When I bought the car it had empi wheels with longer wheel bolts as the stud holes are deeper on after market wheels.
When I fitted the GT wheels I used the same bolts. It turns out the wheel bolts were rubbing on the inside of the drum on the brake shoe with the handbrake lever on it.
I swapped to the wheel bolts that were on my GT wheels & problem solved as they are about 10mm shorter!!
