  2. So I took the spare wheel holder off the front of the camper as I prefer the look without. Do big VW badges fill the 4 holes? Or will I have to fill them and paint? [IMG]

  5. Carpeting going pretty well

Unfortunately, I found a slight leak at the rain gutter at the back and on investigating, there's quite a bit of rust there. I've ripped out all the rotten wood to start investigating.

I also found a leak above the sliding door coming through a little hole which could be a seal or another patch of rust. Bit more investigating to do![IMG][IMG]

  6. Hi guys - camper isn't ready for camping yet but we're off in a tent at the weekend. This tent came with the Bay Window and I presumed we could use it at the weekend - however I've test assembled it and I don't understand what it's purpose actually is?! It's a Reimo Tourmobile 6 which I'm presuming is pretty old as there's not really any mention of it online.

It has an inner bit but it's very small and doesn't seem to fit into the hooks inside. I know it's supposed to attach to the camper on the gutter rails (which we aren't doing as the camper's not coming) is it not a tent that's supposed to be slept in?[IMG]

Most people sleep in their vans and bale out all their stuff/cook/eat/socialise or whatever in the awning. Otherwise what's the point - you might as well just have a car/tent?

  8. Yeah I get that but the van isn't ready yet and we're off camping at the weekend. Thought we could just use this as a tent but it doesn't seem to be possible!

Many years ago some friends and I camped at Glastonbury in one of the chap's mother's Westy awning. We actually just put it up, forgot about it, then took it down again at the end. It barely stayed up without a van attached and you couldn't have said it made a good tent, but it was better than the 4ft long cotten Weetabix token play tent another "I'll bring a tent" mate provided for Reading festival.

That’s just a basic awning normally used just to give some extra shelter space possible cook in it, I’m not sure I would sleep in it without it being attached to something solid.

You can get bigger awnings that are more like tents that have sleeping pods inside.

Im not a fan of awnings if you have one you only fill it up with stuff that you have to carry and put up and down.

  11. Hi everyone - broke down in the Bay Window the other day.

Long story short - the fuel gauge doesn't work and I've just been relying on intuition and mileage. It's been fine until the other day when the gauge worked and told me I had 1/4 of a tank and I believed it!

I think she ran out of fuel - it started losing power and then back firing so I pulled over and managed to get some fuel in her. Unfortunately, I think it was too late as it no longer starts properly, run for a second and stutters and dies. I'm presuming it's sucked crap up from the tank.

  12. Does my van have a type 4 engine?

I need to know what service parts to get. I'd also like to get a new fuel pump and work out what the coil wiring should look like. It's not running very well at the moment and I think it's related to the terrible coil wiring (hand twisted and masking taped!) thought I may as well fully service it and get a new fuel pump while I'm re-wiring the coil. I've just replaced all the fuel lines and filter :)

Give us a clue and post a pic. But if it has one carb it’s probably a Type 1 and if it has two carbs it’s probably a type 4.

No, from the exhaust in your pics it's a type-1. Fuel pump next to the distributor on top of the engine?

  15. Sorry guys! I thought I'd already posted a pic of the engine bay - I'll upload one shortly. It's got one carb and the fuel pump is next to the distributer, yes.

  16. Here it is

I need to work out what plugs and fuel pump I need to get. It has electronic ignition so won't need points etc. but I'd like to fit a new pump and all service parts whilst I'm re wiring the coil. I also need to see a vacuum diagram as there is a cav port on the carb that's not got hose on.

Send me an email address and I’ll send you an idiots guide to servicing a type 1 if you want it?
