  1. Yes, got stuck there for 6 weeks moving the boat up to Shardlow.... Waiting for the Rothersthorpe flight to open after maintenance... Still got the boat. Now live near Loughborough. And got a 28k mile from new Transit mk 4 LWB (carb, pinto 2L petrol).... so still tinkering ;)

My boss and her partner live on Shardlow Marina, they love it there.

  3. I was on Crocker's (Chapel Farm) marina for 18 months, now just above Shardlow lock on Willowbrook Moorings... Great little town - 7 pubs within 10 min walk from the boat!! I lived not he boat 3 days a week for 10 years or more until we recently moved house from Cambs up to Leics.

Only problem with Shardlow Marina is when the Trent gets above 3m the car park floods. Starting to happen every year now... was a once in a decade thing until last 3 or 4 years.

They live on Chapel Farm! Her name is Michelle, his Andy (he does some restoration work on canal boats). It is nice around there, we sometimes walk around that area, @theBusmonkey lives on the main marina.

They have said the same about the flooding, it seems to be getting more frequent.

    Hi Rob,
Did you know you were my son's partners Prof? What a laugh we had when we discovered that. The person she described was nothing like the one I know. lol

  6. Yeah, you told me that once when you came to stay on the boat and I made the worst bacon sarnie in history (sorry 'bout that!)... I'm sure the student I knew was quite different from the woman out on the town too, from what I recall you saying! Do say hi (I'm sure she's long forgotten... she was a really good student actually).

Hope you doing OK.. still in the Fens?

She's very clever and organised for sure. They're in NZ these days, he's automating homes for people with more money than sense, she's doing something with birds and composing music.
I bought a boat about 8 years ago up in Lancs so that's where I live now. I've still got a T2, I must be an idiot!

  8. Not sure my boat can go up that far.... 70 ft'er. Hear that canal is pretty though... glad to hear you finally got one. I'm missing living on mine TBH - been 6/7 months. We lived on it full time between houses. took nearly 2 years to sell the Chatteris house (our plumber bought it eventually - Truss exploded the housing market just as we were about to sell....) The Transit became storage shed for a while.

I'd genuinely love to get a T2 again.... but Nicky said she wouldn't ever go in it, so no point really... and the tranny is quite comfortable, and the engine is so easy to get to and fiddle about with (not that it needs much fettling TBF). Not the same noise tho... but a 5th Gear (wow)... It needs some paint. Then it'll be fine. The original paint has literally dissolved off to leave the grey undercoat in places... so will have to do something about that this year.

Our boat was on Shardlow Marina but we moved a couple of years ago due to the flooding. Now on Mercia Marina, expensive but we can get out on the canal easily, and because we’re not liveaboards are not stressing about the boat when we’re not there and The Trent is in flood.

Ist year we had the boat I broken down by Crockers Marina. Unfortunately it was mozzie weather and the sewerage works were moving. I got bit a lot, so did Neil @theBusmonkey who came down to help me.

We were back at Shardlow in August doing our blacking at Shardlow Marina.
