1600 Compact Propex - Low Voltage Cut Out Light

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by burntout, Aug 26, 2013.

  1. Won't ignite and comes up with the low voltage cut out light - tried it hooked up to mains but still nothing - first thought maybe there wasn't enough power in the battery but kinda ruled that out once it came up with the same when hooked up to mains as that should mean there is easily the 12v running to it. Also have a full new bottle of gas so can't be that.

Is it possible the cable isn't strong enough to cope with it that runs to the box?

Anyone else had a similar problem or have any suggestions?

All help gratefully received as always - many thanks in advance.

    Mrs B :)

  2. Have you previously had it working?

  3. Only on cold, it was in bus when we purchased it.

    Do you have gas?

  5. These are pretty bullet proof I've been told by the propex guys. They just don't die! I have one. It's not a gas problem cuz that lights a different light. It can't be receiving 12v. I'd test it at the battery and the heater. Either the battery is knackered or its a wiring fault. Think is has an earth wire 2 from memory!

  6. Cheers peeps - thinking it must be a wiring issue :(

They need a reset procedure once it's stopped for low voltage.

If memory serves me you need to put the thermostat onto a setting where the lights come on and then put the switch to the right - centre - left within 2 seconds.

I may be wrong on the procedure, my instructions are in the van at the moment but I know for a fact that it'll need resetting before it comes on.

Let me know if the above doesn't work and I'll dig out my instructions for you.

  8. Gas turned on? Done it myself a couple of times. Reset button inside the unit. Can't do any pictures untill tonight.

  9. Ah thanks chaps/chapesses - will have to have a go at this reset thing! Don't think I have seen a reset button inside the unit but will go and investigate further as well as try what @sANDYbAY says. :) Oh and as I said in original post - gas definitely on lol - hopefully a new leisure battery will arrive today so will be able to try that.

  10. id run the engine to add some volts to the battery and then give it another go ,
check your batt voltage, before and during the time the engine is running ...

  11. got it so it doesn't come up with low voltage cut out now, can hear it click like its trying to ignite but can't get it to.take of ;) one more step along the way tho :)

Set switch to flame (to left) then slowly turn thermostat up until it starts blowing and then wait . . .

    It fires after 20 - 40 seconds.

  13. Have u checked the intake and exhaust under the van are clear? Propex instruction are online if you don't have them. Sometimes if you run out of gas mine won't relight first time but does second time. I assume you tried it more than once?!

  14. Sorry to dig up an old thread but I am in the same boat as @burntout

First time I have fired up the Propex since taking it out of a splitty about 8 years ago.
    Same scenario:

Have plenty of gas and gas is on

Leisure Battery says it is fully charged, stereo works

Did the reset procedure above work in the end?

  15. We tried it, but it didn't work for us :( It did do something tho so may of helped but gave up at that point and not looked into any more since. Well worth trying tho @Lord Charles nothing to lose and all that! :)

Speak to technical at propex Charlie. Not much goes wrong with these. Gas. Voltage. exhaust or air intake. Nice chaps and totally helpful.

  17. ive fixed one that had a sticky gas solinoid ,
it seems to stick if not used for a period of time,
propex do servicing, on them which is supposed to be good ...

  18. Just tried it with the engine running and the low voltage light went out, the unit was clicking like it was trying to ignite but after 20 seconds switched off again. Tried the reset again still no joy. I think I will try it with a new battery as I suspect my leisure battery is kaput.

  19. yup it will try to fire up,
but if no gas is getting through it will stop clicking ,
    thats the ignitor sparking ..
the valve may be stuck ...
