Too much faith! I'd have a go though.

  6. I've used and set programmable ignitions on race bikes , you'd plan in 4 curves and selection was by a rotary switch on the LH bar . Basically the bottom two were for torque and tractability out of corners (wet) , 3 was a good fast 'dry' setting and 4 was "on the edge' of detonation for short bursts ..
The system was ultra trick at the time , running a det(onation) sensor so you actually knew how many times the dets per minute were occurring so you could determine how close to the edge you were running. Made by CSP an' all
Things will have moved along massively and even road bikes have pre programmed ignition curves you can select on the move - totally irrelevant on the road but hey , it's bling innit ...

The bulk buy was about £250 delivered so anything close to that sounds good

  10. I'm trying to help you justify it.

    No one really 'needs' one

  12. I had a programmable ECU for my Honda VTR-1000 SP1. Turned a bonkers road bike into something unrideable unless at Donington. I loved it.

Choosing a bad place to put an ignition pickup for a timing light can also lead to jumpy timing results.
Mine works best on the No1 lead over by the plug for instance.

If the distributor is worn, its usually the idle timing that clatters around, at high speed its usually a lot better, as friction takes over holding everything more steady.

Americans seem to see the 123 as a bit strange because it still has timing error from bad adjustment, mechanical jitter from the distributor gear and its engagement with the drive dog on the distributor.

They seem to prefer spending loads of dosh on made in the USA crank fire timing for that reason.

  15. Nooo. Think of all the years you've had to put up with soft Southerners, with their quiche and their organic falafel.

You've suffered enough. You deserve one.

So I was looking at my slightly scattery timing. I put the pick up on my king lead which made it look worse.

Then I downloaded the bluetooth app and see it's going to tell me real time total timing and advance vacuum as I drive around which I'd like...

    So I've ordered a tune+. @Lasty
