I `uummmd` and `ahhhd` about buying a 123 in the bulk buy and decided i didn`t need one - i just wanted one ! Thing is , i keep looking at them and getting a strange twinge - like i need one but can`t justify the £300+ they`re asking ... Out of interest , how much was the basic 123 V-R being sold for on the offer ??
I've also got a powerspark, was £65 for an svda dizzy with a electronic module fitted. Have only done about 1000 miles on it so far, but 1000 miles without a single issue.
I know , i know .... That`s what i`m running at the moment without any issues whatsoever but tempted into trying a 123 just to see the difference - sad or just looking for an excuse
Whaaaat!!! I thought you were Mr Stock? But same here, I toy with the idea and have done for years. Luckily I'd want the most expensive tuneable version so the price continues put me off. Surprising that the Chinese aren't knocking them out for peanuts.
Yeah but they'd be sheeit If the Chinese got involved , the genuine ones are quality Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
It this the one u can tune if ur phone Chris u can't put ideas in my little head I love a gadget Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Their manufacturing has really come on recently. Have you tried their new Pangolin points distributor?
I'm looking at the basic one although they sell Bluetooth and laptop tuneable versions , both are overkill unless you've a fancy injun and want to customise the ignition curve to match the tuning ... I've seen a basic v-r for about 260 quid all in . That sounds ok ? Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
If you want one, get one! Go for the basic one. I’d bet most folk who go for the tunable one end up just using the default curve. “Tuning” is quite a good way of burning holes in your pistons...
I was tempted for my new engine. Tempted tempted tempted. Stick with stock unless a 1776 twin carb engine owner can show me huge gains in smooth revs ect
Despite not having one, which does require will power, I came across 2 or 3 in ye olde garage days and they were all noticeable for their smooth idle and revving. Was that the distributor? I'd say yes it was.
When I get tempted, I put the timing light on my Bosch and watch it sit spot on at idle, rev it up and watch it sit spot on at 28 degrees. Then I realise I dont need a 123. This is a distributor built out of 2 or 3 other less good ones, including some pretty dire wrecks. Total swap meet cost about £60.
Very few people know how to customise the curve, they’ll tell you it’s easy to do but won’t, or can’t tell you how to do it. Almost all those that have any tuneable ignition just copy the standard curve.
Quick question sorry to jump on the thread, I did notice last time I did my valve gaps that when I checked the timing at 28 deg the mark was jumping all over the place, would this be the distributor?
But I wouldn't would I? I'd probably end up there though. I'm almost convinced mine went better 4 to 28 than 8 to 28. Limiting max advance then moving the distributor advances the whole curve and for my particular engine, this is mostly where it operates best 2-3500rpm. I could mess with mechanically trying to adjust the start point and all in revs, play with springs, repeatedly dismantling it anf forgetting the butt dyno between. Or change a 7 (?) point curve on my phone. Damn, I've almost talked myself into into it!
It's times like this I'm glad I don't have a rolling road dyno at home. Hmm wait what? I'm building a new garage so....
