Nope I’ve got the front panel to do Two cab doors to re do Sliding door needs welding filling and painting Then there’s the steel roof and the fibreglass pop top. I’ve used two different batches of paint and there’s quite a difference in shade between them So some of the panels I did earlier on are a different colour So they may get scotched up and blown over if I have any rattle cans left at the end. So still a fair bit to do but it’s progressing well.
What type of paint are you using, sorry if you've mentioned this previously. Is it cellulose, 2k proper stuff or 1k in a can (that they call 2k, but it's not really). I've used the latter and I'm going off it a bit. Cheers
It’s military vehicle paint Chris https://www.arc-rite.co.uk/anti-rust-military-paint-matt-satin-gloss
Cheers art it’s not perfect but it’s starting to look tidy and respectful now and will keep the weather out. I’ll be on to the front panel next which is going to take some work as there’s dents all over it and cracked filler and paint.
So today I dug out an Australian roo bar I bought a while ago And started to cut it up ready for making it into a somewhat different one. It will get mocked up on the van adjusted as needed and then all tacked together before removing it from the van to be fully welded. I want to get this done before I tackle the front panel then there’s no chance of damaging a freshly painted panel.
Funnily enough I bought it to do my Roo Bars. It works really well. The collar that it uses to attach to the grinder was too small in diameter but I opened it up a but and used a longer bolt. The belts aren't cheap but I think it's worth it.
Cheers mark I think one might get be just the ticket to tidy up the areas where the bars were previously welded I’ve given them a tidy with an electric finger file but I’m thinking the pipe sander may give a more even curved finish.
Mine are chrome/rust so I've mainly been removing rust and keying the chrome. I'd probably use the finger file to remove the worst and finish with the pipe sander when doing all the pipe surfaces.
Louvred window and side bar fitted. Put a rivnut in the deformation panel then started shortening the height of the front bar.
Drilled the chassis rails and fitted rivnuts Measured up and drilled the holes for the spots and mounted them on the bumper. I’ve tightened everything up and I’m happy how it sits So a bit of welding on the bar and it’s ready for prep and paint.
Picked the belly pans up from the powder coaters They said they couldn’t get nato green So we got the colour charts and I picked Ral 6003 olive green as it seemed close enough considering they would be underneath the bus. They have come out a lot lighter in powder coat than I was expecting Oh well I’ll just have to live with it
