  10. The waffle boards I got are too heavy to be hanging of the sliding door at approx 6.5 kg a piece
    So I’ve bought some recovery tracks that weigh in at approx 2.5 kg a piece.
    They are a one trick pony compared to waffle boards but still they will get me out of trouble to a degree

    Should make secret storage inside the slider for the waffle boards...
     
  12. The waffle boards are too heavy a weight to add to the door.
    I can’t imagine the bearings and bushes would take kindly to that much extra weight Mike.

    Plus they need to be easily accessible to remove and put back
    When they have been used they end up carrying a fair weight of mud untill you can bang them out and clean them out properly
     
  13. Maybe make some sort of gutter mounted system like this (obviously on the non sliding door only).

    I was thinking using cargo rail or t track
    And having one recovery track on either side of the van
    On the sliding door I’ll need to see where the track would need to sit and see if it’s possible to get some spreader plates behind.
    The sliding door side would need some figuring out but the opposite side panel should be no problem.
     
  15. Or some sort of mounting brackets to raise them above the window height so they fit alongside the pop top like this.

  16. On the sliding door side of the van I will be fitting a pull out sun canopy
    On the opposite side a pull,swing out toilet/shower tent so there should be room for them that side gutter mounted.
    Definitely plenty to think about

Judging by what we've done this weekend, if you're going down lanes etc, then low down on the door is not a good place, they'll get knocked about all over and get ripped off I would say, I'd go high up. What about Replace a rear side window with a sheet of 4mm Alli and use that to mount stuff

  18. That’s an option but I do like to be able to see out of all the windows
    I hated it when it had an interior that blocked the near side rear window
    Plus being a panel van the alli would have to be curved somehow to match the profile of the van.
    I agree though that they are probably better off mounted higher up.
     
  19. Thats why the camel trophy land rovers had them attached to the side of the roof rack.

    Our van is rhd so slight different. But I never use the rear window behind driver to look out of. It’s simply not in vision unless you turn your head 180. Yous must be similar LHD. Rear window behind driver can’t get used.
