so, any update from the boys who've bought one of these? I was expecting to see pic video of happy kayakers having fun in their new toys..? didn't use it yet? or its just rubbish / you've drowned etc?
I was hoping for a Benny Hill type farce with people desperately trying to apply a patch to a soaking wet, wafer thin kayak, whilst simultaneously bailing out with the paddle blade, thus causing more punctures and more patching.
When I was camping at ullswater last year there was a couple of guys with Lidl kayaks and they didn’t appear to be having any problems They were venturing a lot further and with a lot more ease than I was in an inflatable dingy All my effort was taken up by trying to keep the dingy on course.
Our worst ever boating was getting yellow snowed in Cowes after a Round The Island race. We were 5 blokes and a big 40kg Labrador We climbed into a 2.4 metre RIB, with a little outboard on the back, and then tried to cross Cowes Harbour in the dark. The waves were slopping over the sides. The dog decided that it would sit on somebody's lap because the boat was filling up with water and it didnt like sitting in water. We had to bail out the boat as we were going along with the commemorative tankard they used to hand out for competing. Halfway through the Harbour Masters launch passed us, shone a light on us, did a boaty shrug and moved on.. We had to stop to empty out the boat at a slipway on the way. We tipped at least one set of shades dropped in the bottom of the boat out into the harbour at that point... We lived.
The Tescos ones for £120 "stood up" well compared with some more expensive ones when one was tried out at our Hamble River SC SUP club. Wider, more stable and forgiving. So much so several people went straight up to Tescos and bought one.
I did Lewes Newhaven raft race on several occasions 2nd twice and victors last time , the benefits of having a gang of top quality sheeteez and a ductwork company sponsoring us , pedal versions
