Been busy for the last hour washing and cleaning and tiding the campervan! There have been so many mechanics round it these last 2 weeks that there seems to be a layer of oily dust over everything. And to make matters worse I've had to T-Cut the rear bumper because of the amount of tools being put down on it. Anyway, she's looking better now... Still a wee bit to go but I'm very pleased. Given it a good air freshen too because with all them fumes that were coming out of the heating everything was a wee bit smelly! Also, and many of you will be pleased to hear this, I'm getting booked in to take the van down to the central belt, possibly further, and get the carbs and timing done by a proper VW Camper mechanic. There's a man down in Dumfries and Galloway who I hear good things about... Might see if he can bit me in next month when I'm en route to Cairnryan for the ferry Honestly everyone I am so grateful for all the help you have all offered me. This is a great wee online community and especially so for people living in my part of Scotland, far from anyone who knows what they're doing (save a small few).
Right - here's another off topic question... Is the speed limit for these vans on on normal 2 lane road 50mph or 60mph? Been getting told different things by different people! I ever popped into the police station a few months ago in Inverness to ask about the speed limit before hitting the long A9 road South, which is fill of average speed cameras... They said and I quote "could be 50 could be 60, we don't know but you should be fine to go 60"... That was from a traffic police man. I said " so if I go over 50 and get caught for speeding will you promise to make sure my fine and points are taken away?"... He said "yes of course". Wasn't sure if I should believe him! I then drove 5 mile down the road, stopped at an antique dealer who has older vehicles and he told me its Max 50mph. So as you can guess I'm clueless here
Sorry Darren, but that sounds like BS to me....Traffic and CJU officer would never promise to ensure fines and points are revoked
Well at least he couldn't, doesn't know it himself.(or at least couldn't be bothered to ask you relevant questions to give correct answer.)
I promise you every word of that is true! Remember, police here in the Highlands are very layed back about pretty much everything... Old style policing! Still, I was very unsure if I should believe him so I stick to 50 It was all true though!
You wanna stick to 50 anyway otherwise your van becomes hard to start, pops and bangs when it does start and smells of oil and exhaust fumes.
Don't go above 50mph otherwise you'll get a nose bleed. Don't go above 60mph otherwise you'll blow the radiator.
