Mistakes happen, but what is probably happening here is Mr Macrae is wringing his hands at the garage at the possible cost so the mechanics don't want to look too hard for problems. It's no fun working for someone who constantly moans they're skint, I would do the absolute minimum and get it out of the workshop. Get it running and wave it off. It's not my fault the customer claims to be skint, does bugger all maintenance themselves and has a Marmitee bus is it? Normally they then arrive with the other half to pick it up in a Range Rover Vogue or something anyway. Some peoples idea of skint means simply "I have decided not to spend much money on my bus". Some customers have a budget and demand you do what they want within it. Obviously with no idea how many other broken things will appear along the way this is not really a practical stance so better really to explain that and show them the door rather than get part way into the job and find you've used the budget up.

BTW Colin either hasn't a clue or doesn't want the job because you keep telling him you're skint Darren.

No, straight for the flake, then lick till the icecream is level, then nibble the shoulder of the cone away, then bite the bottom of the cone off and suck the icecream through like a straw, then chomp up the cone. Approximately :)

  9. that is not unusual , but do you like Tom Jones

  10. Given the extent of his mechanic genius I can't believe Duncan MacRae would know how to tighten a plug, perhaps a lead had come off and he popped that back on. Perhaps he's just 'aving a laugh with us all.

    Its the final countdown 83

    Pretty much that ^^^
How anyone can continue to blame a garage when they've clearly read the whole smoke and mirrors thread is beyond me.
How do we actually know it was a plug? The poor sod can't even look at it again until Friday (allegedly)?

Without wishing to make assumptions, I believe I read on another thread - although I can't for the life of me think which one - that you are quite young Darren? Nothing wrong with that, in fact I'd quite like to have a few less candles on my birthday cake... but 25 years ago I was hunting for loose change down the back of the sofa, in hell-hole rented digs, to buy a pint of milk... not buying £10k late bay campervans. As I say, nothing wrong there, good for you in setting up a business to show people around a lovely part of the country, and paying the bills any way you can... but if I were a hard working mechanic, and a young lad comes in with an expensive motor, and bangs on about needing it all fixed as cheap as possible.....
All that said, it's been an entertaining read (albeit a tad protracted!), and I certainly can't say anything about lack of mechanical skills as I have none at all. ....I do hope to learn something along the way though, and until then I'm lucky enough to have a crackin' mechanic who looks after my car and now my van brilliantly :)
Good luck Darren, I sincerely hope you will be hiring out your van and proudly showing punters around the Highlands as soon as possible.
