Oh man That's savage to read. I hope you can connect with some people in the Australian scene to see if you can recover the parts...! Wishing you lots of luck mate
I don't know what to do. all I can do now is just get the past done as I have been waiting 6 months for it to happen. I was just told by him he was going on a holiday. I called up his boss and he now put it all together and there is a fair bit of trouble going on now as apparently lots of his bosses stuff were stolen as well. the guy has been in the country for over 10 years and working in this industry. one of my neighbours knows him from church and even some other people I have spoken to have know idea what has happened and why he hasn't come back yet. my neighbour said she will be able to get in contact with his family as they know each other. Apparently his boss figured it out when he didn't come back to work and didn't even know of the holiday then put it all together and people came up to him through contacts and told him. all I can say is that im a lot better of then his boss compared to his losses. I just want my parts back so I can get the car re assembled and going its been like almost 3 long years. should never of touched it or bought the stupid thing.
In for a penny. I’m for a pound. Sorry, but you need to choose if you are in or out. Not trying to be rude - but you need to cut your losses, or finish the journey. I reckon finish the journey. You are not far off driving to a northern beaches pub and enjoying the comments.
It's understandably very disheartening @Dean mitropoulos . After what has already been a long slog, an unexpected expense and set back like this is bound to feel Marmite! Seems like focusing on getting the parts back is a good place to start and try to go easy on yourself as you've done your best. We all make mistakes and sometimes life just hands us a big slice of turd pie for no apparent reason.
I will do some asking around and see what I can gather information on. For now I’m just going to paint it
sent over to the painters. his happy with the weld and everything so his going to take it to bare metal and do the minor panel beating ect
anyone have any photos of what the correct colour will look like on a 1974 kombi. not sure if the white should be just the roof and the gutters or the windows as well. there are so many options. if I have the lower half another colour, will the inside still need to be white like before or the body colour. I think mine was white originally that is why it's white inside. with the wheels, bumpers, door handles and mirrors would they be chrome or white?
As painting it coming to a completion in a couple weeks just wondering what the best way would be to reassemble the whole thing. I have been quoted $20,000 for the lot except upholstery however I could do it my self and get a mechanic to do some of it ie, the breaks, steering and ball joints. Any thoughts or @Zed how would you go with the order of assembling it?
yes it was a bit of work but I contacted his landlord and he opened up the garage where he had my kombi and most parts where there. At least he left them there but he must go had another workshop as other peoples parts and tools won't there and they think he has everything else hidden away somewhere else.
thanks i'm really grateful however I still feel very bad for everyone else. The guys landlord of the workshop where mine was at gave him a beetle and a $18,000 deposit. now the beetle is a wreck with every part striped out of it and not a single nut and bolt in that workshop. Everyone thinks that there must be some other hidden container or garage somewhere else and when he comes back he will start up again.
Woah, glad to hear your parts showed up! Well done for persevering Shame about other people's though. Let's hope whatever desperate reason that led them to steal is getting resolved and people can get their money back!
Im looking into a wiring harness as mine isn't the best. I cannot find a 1974 type. Could I use a later one and make it work or is there somewhere I can get it from? one company told me at least 6months to have it ready but would want it sooner.
I looked at them and decided it would cost a 3rd (probably take 5x longer though) to do my own. To avoid being cursed by a future owner i’ll colour code it (wires & shrink tubing) as closely as possible to the wiring plan.
I cant think of the guys name here in the UK but Mic Bergsma / Kona the Bus had one made here and shipped out to the US and he said how good the quality was. Is that an option?
If you have the old harness it’s not too difficult to make yourself a new one. I made one for the baja but think I’ll be buying one from Iain Burns from Aircooled Auto Elec when I get to that stage on the splitty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
